They work well for the 33 style motors with a single pickup because the center rail is continuous (like the old Marx O-Gauge switches), but they have a zinc-pest problem where the switch motor housings and gear will expand and jam.  It is hard to find a set that doesn't have this problem.  That said, you can retrofit them with a manual mechanism from another manufacturer (I'm going to do this if the repairs ever stop coming in...)

There is an arm connected to the points, so you could fabricate a manual throw.  The mechanism is similar to the 027 switch, but the throw is longer, so I don't think that will work unless the point where the "arm" connects to the gear is extended to increase the travel.  I haven't had time to fool with it due to the time involved.  The gear isn't always the problem, its the cover which warps and fouls up the mechanism.
