I picked up an example off one of these forums; can't remember if it was here or an S scale group. πŸ€”

Anyway, it runs really well; smooth, quiet and I like the way the body is attached to the frame. Makes servicing it a snap. πŸ‘ I do have a couple questions:

First off, is there an after market set of window and headlight "glass" available?

Secondly, I have always considered S to be a slightly smaller version of O (as opposed to a slightly larger version of HO); the motor in this is quite tiny. Should I be concerned about that, and if so, what replacement motor is recommended?

Thanks!

American Models is terrific at supporting its products with parts if anything goes wrong. My RS-3 came with window "glass" as well as headlights, but I don't know if AM has these parts in stock. You can call them at 734-449-1100 to find out--phone calls are far better than emails with this company. As far as motors go, I have 40-year old American Models locomotives that run as well today as they did when I bought them. I doubt that you will ever need to replace the motor in the RS-3 unless you encounter a very rare problem; and even then, AM will help you out.  One of the great advantages of the S scale community is the willingness of both manufacturers and modelers to help each other out, and AM is one of the best.

Mark, I am not sure what you are looking for, my RS3's all have "glass" in all the windows and headlights. If you need replacement pieces AM may have them. The RS3's easily pull 10 not very free rolling Gilbert and Lionel AF cars up a 2.5% grade. They would pull a few more. Were they AM or SHS cars with needle point axles one RS3 would pull 20 cars up the grade. I have had mine for over 20 years with no problems. They were converted to TMCC/Railsounds but use the original motors.
