I bought this K-4 back in 2008. I just got it back out of storage to run it. I can not find the operating manual for it. I have a copy of the parts exploded-drawing of the 4-6-2 Pacific.   Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the operating manual ?  I emailed American Models a while back and heard nothing from them.

Thank You Very Much, Ernie

As I recall, there isn't a manual, just an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet included in the box.  Mine's packed away so I'm winging it here.

There's not a lot of sophistication in AM locomotives.  Mechanical chugger smoke unit, electronic reverse and Ott sound system (if AC w/ sound) in the tender.  All the sound board does is provide whistle and bell sounds, (activated by whistle/bell control on a transformer) plus the occasional random cycle of an air compressor.  The switch in the back of the cab turns the smoke unit on and off.

Also, I recall there's a mention not to lift the locomotive by the side skirting, they are plastic while the rest of the boiler is die cast.

Basically its lightly lube the axles on the locomotive, make sure the tender wipers are making contact with the axles, (all power is picked up on the tender, none on the locomotive.)  Plug in the tender harness (I don't recall if it matters which end is up, outside pins power the motor and headlight, inside pins the smoke unit) and a little some fluid through the stack and it's ready to go.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner Rusty. I  have the old white two button oMs controller that has the whistle and bell. Sometimes the bell will not work. I have to keep pushing the button to get it to work. I will have to clean the track and pick-up wheels to see if that helps.

Did you order any of the MTH EMD F-7's ? I ordered two powered A units and one non-powered B unit some months ago. I ordered the WM units.

I use to work for the WM back in the 70's then they became the Chessie System. I took a buy-out back in 1986 when CSX bought Chessie. We run trains from Baltimore, Md. to Hagerstown, Md. then to Cumberland, Md. then to Connellsville, Pa. We ran a lot of the EMD SD 40-2 units back then.

Thank You Very Much for the info,  Ernie

Also, try switching around the wires to the track, that will reverse the controller whistle and bell button functions to see if it's the button or the electrical contact on the locomotive.

I've ordered a Burlington A-B-A F7 set.  Supposed to come in sometime during December, now.  Used to see Burlington F's traipsing  through Berwyn, IL all the time back in the 60's.
