Photos and video show my MTH Premier Amtrak P42 Genesis #104 with a 2-car consist on my 10’-by-5’ layout. The locomotive is an older PS2 5-Volt model with a BCR. It hadn’t been run in years. I cleaned the wheels and pickup rollers and off it went. Amtrak passes through small towns in Connecticut, such as on my layout. The consists are two or three cars between New Haven and Springfield, Massachusetts, although the P42 locomotives and cars now have a newer livery. It seems to me that I see very few threads about Amtrak models on the Forum.

I enjoyed reading about your layout in the recent issue of OGR. Watching your Amtrak P42 with its train running on your layout is like standing at track side in a small town. I also like just watching trains running through nice scenery. I remember when Amtrak's SDP-45's had the "Sweeping Arrow" logo. That one will always be my sentimental favorite.

I'm surprised that Amtrak doesn't get more attention from model railroaders. Before the pandemic, I used to visit the local railroad station almost every day and it was always interesting to see an Amtrak AEM-7 or ACS-64 electric motor with eight passenger cars come to a stop, take on passengers, and resume on its way to Boston or New York City.

Great videos and loving what everyone has shared regarding there Amtrak in this thread. One of my biggest regrets was not buying an Premier Amtrak Genesis Proto 3 like @MELGAR has in his second video or an AEM-7. I elected to go for the Nicholas Smith Exclusive NJT P40. Nice engine but finding passenger cars that aren’t Atlas is nearly impossible.

That said, Ive picked up quite a bit of Amtrak since my first Amtrak Command control engine in the summer of 2018. Have 4 conventional Amtrak’s: Williams GP-9(my first engine,  got it for Christmas of 99), RMT Amtrak Buddy, mid-90s Lionel Amtrak switcher that runs on AC or DC, MTH AEM-7 Proto 1.

My first passenger cars were Amtrak. Bought them with my mom in the mid-90s- Danbury, Temple and the Vista dome. 12 inch size

bwfore I left my house, I was taking some pictures of my collection. All of my Amtrak Passenger cars(except the first 3 mentioned above) are shown as well as my Amtrak Command engines:

Bottom shelf, right  left: Lionel Dash-9, K-Line F40PH with TMCC, RS, Cruise 4, MTH F59PHI Proto 2(most recent Amtrak engine) 2nd shelf up: Set version of the Lionel HHP-8(not like @gunrunnerjohn ‘s separate sale with all the bells and whistles) with 18” amfleet  passenger cars and add-on 2 pack. Shelf 3: K-line aluminum 15” Horizon set and add-on Dinette, plus a MTH Premier 19” extruded aluminum sleeper. Top shelf are MTH 16” RK Amfleets And RK reefer

Other Amtrak rolling stock not shown: Weaver Express Baggage, Lionel orange Tool car, K-line ore car. Keep the Amtrak coming!

Nice layout and engines Mel!  My #104 died about 8 years ago as I didn't realize to change out the white battery.  I am glad I also bought #107 & #110 which now have new NIMH batteries which I make sure are charged.  I might consider BCR's in the future.

Make sure the plating on the Star speaker in your #104 isn't flaking which can cause big problems also.  Replace it immediately is it looks like this or if it doesn't sound right.

Thanks for letting me know about the speaker in the MTH Amtrak Genesis #104 with 5-volt PS-2. I opened up my model and inspected the speaker. The plating is granular but there is no sign of flaking and the sounds are good. The speaker on mine is a CUISTACK GF0501 – 16 Ohms – 0.25 Watts. The flaking speaker in your photo is a STAR FR-050-A1421 – 16 Ohms – 5 Watts, and is no longer available. My question is whether the type of speaker in my model, which is also used in the Railking Genesis and other MTH models, has caused problems and should be replaced. The photos also show the BCR in my model and the videos play the sounds.
