Introducing the OGR “Wear Are You” Contest

Yes, you read the title correctly! OGR is going to have a special contest at the TCA Eastern Division's October 2021 York Meet, and your eligibility to participate depends on what you are wearing at the meet. Permit me to explain:

We decided to change things up a bit this time, and instead of a crew manning an OGR booth during the event, Ed Boyle, Allan Miller and Dave Minarik will be roaming the halls waiting for you to approach them and say hello or introduce yourself. They will be wearing OGR shirts and caps, so they should be easy to spot. They will be on the lookout for those of you who are also wearing a bit of O Gauge Railroading attire—shirts, caps, tags, bags, jackets. . . you name it. . . just as long as you are wearing something that lets those around you know that you are a fan of OGR! (No undergarments please...LOL.) No purchase is necessary to participate, so homemade is fine.

Be creative if you want to take that approach, but if you do choose to purchase one or more items of official OGR attire, just visit our website (www.ogaugerr.com); click on “Web Store” in the top menu bar; scroll down; and you're on your way to getting one or more quality items that show your support for OGR and our great segment of the hobby. Even better, if you are planning to attend the October York Meet, you will be well on your way to winning one of the great prizes we will be offering to participants.

Here are the simple procedures and rules:

  1. While at the fall York Meet, and wearing OGR apparel or tags inside the trading halls, keep an eye out for Allan, or Dave. When you spot one of them, use your (or a friend's) cell phone camera to take your photo with the OGR staff member. Make sure the picture clearly shows you standing next to Allan or Dave.

  2. One important caveat: This meet-and-greet and photo must be taken inside (where permitted) or at the doors of the trading halls during the meet's normal operating hours. Photos taken at any OGR grandstand meeting, before- or after-hours gathering, hotel lobby, fairgrounds parking lots, food vendor stands or restaurants, or any other such location will not be eligible.

  3. Email the photo ( NO TEXTS ) as soon as possible (before the end of the meet weekend) to info@ogaugerr.com, along with your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number.  Allan, and Dave will not be doing this for you, so make sure you get those pictures and info to us via the email address provided.  You can also email them to adman@ogaugerr.com, that is me!.

Once we receive your picture and info, we will post the photo (not your personal info) on the forum and automatically enter you as a winner in our contest. Yes, everyone will win something for simply participating. We will use our computer to pick what you will win, which could be, but is not limited to, shirts, hats, tote bags, books, videos, and subscriptions to the magazine. But wait! There's more!

All participants will be included in TWO Grand Prize Drawings of $500. Yes, $500 to use in any way you care to. Only two Grand Prizes will be awarded.

Okay guys and gals! You have plenty of time to prepare for this event. Join us in the Wear Are You contest and have some fun promoting OGR, building friendships, and winning a free prize.

Nice. A fresh idea. And someone wins…

I’ll add that I enjoyed visiting  the OGR booth and seeing the OGR celebrities and my conversation with Ed.

I really enjoyed seeing Ms. Trotta in person. She’s such a talented person.   I liked seeing her personal creations, even without a Lionel train or model depicting our hobby 😁😄☺️

EVERYONE WINS in this case!  This is why we need those pictures and your contact info!

Is it one entry per person, or one entry per OGR celebrity you are photographed with?

None of us is a "celebrity." We're just ordinary guys who love this hobby and try in our own ways to share that love. The exception might be Dave, who is the drummer in a very popular and long-standing rock band (The Clarks). Check them out online to learn more about them. Anyhow, you'll also never find a more modest guy about his many diverse talents than Dave. I can assure you of that.

So just look for one of us ordinary train guys who will, at one time or another, be in most all of the halls.

I'll have my BLUE OGR shirt on one of the days.

But I'm wondering if Ed, Allan and Dave will get pulled apart all weekend long!!  But I'm sure with my celebrity status, they all will be looking for meeeeeeee!!!

Or, maybe this will be a Candid Camera Show.  Where Ed, Allan and Dave won't even be there and the cameras follow unsuspecting forum members around in their search for them!!

WHAT???  A chance at a $500.00 grand prize PLUS being a prize winner just for participating??  Come on guys and gals ... let us know in this thread if you plan on participating in the contest.  This will give us some idea of how many prizes to order.

Thanks!!

My wife and and I are certainly going in on this.  See you there

For those extremely dedicated members, do tattoos count?  Asking for a friend!

Well, I definitely don't have any tattoos, and that wouldn't apply to me. I will of course be wearing my apparel during the meet, night time I think I'll pop on my Steamtown hat. I'm glad we don't have to text the pictures over to a text message address. My phone likes to take big sized photos anymore. It had at one point been fine with the camera adjustments for pixel size, but it has gone through so many updates that those original options aren't available anymore.

I will also be bringing my Canon along for other photos outside of York, so if we have dinner, I can snap and upload those when time permits(unless I leave it at home or in the room by mistake).

Just a friendly reminder that we are getting close to the meet.  If you already have or have had something with the OGR logo, etc. don't forget to take it with you if you are going to the York meet.  AND ... if you have intended to order some kind of OGR apparel from our webstore, you need to do it today!!  We contract with the same folks as the NJHRs and so order now and make sure you tell the folks to rush the order!

Finally, we will have a booth in the Orange Hall.  The plan is to have a "Wear Are You" sign on it with brief instructions on the contest.  Your goal is to find Allan Miller, Ed Boyle, or David Minarik and get that picture taken with them and then email it to me at:  adman@ogaugerr.com

Everyone will that participates will win something as stated in the rules in my first post in this thread but I have a surprise in this morning's update:   We are going to award TWO grand prizes of $500.00 each per the rules.  Lets have fun with this guys and gals!!

Just to make things a bit more challenging:

Ed Boyle will not be attending the Oct. York event because he is still recovering (and it's going well) from some recent health-related issues. That leaves Dave and me as the go-to guys for this fun contest, with the same "rules" in effect as previously stated. Dave has his new OGR shirt and I have mine, so we should be easy enough to find. Hint: We both plan to be wearing long-sleeve shirts.

On a somewhat related note, there will NOT be an OGR Grandstand Meeting on Friday afternoon this time around, in large part because that is traditionally Ed's project to arrange and coordinate.

Ed....whatever is up........GET WELL SOON!

Peter

Ed assures me he is on the road to recovery, but is (quite logically) cautious about making any long-distance travel and being overly active for any prolonged period. With all that has been going on over the past couple of years, it certainly makes goods sense to err on the side of common sense and caution.

I always love talking to Ed. Yeah, I love talking to everybody as well, Ed reminds me of someone, which I couldn't quite tell you who but I wager maybe my late brother-in-law's Uncle Frank. Uncle Frank was one of those old Navy vet's who was a very learned man, read a bunch of stuff, and you could pick any topic and he would be able to talk to you about it. I feel that way with Ed(and a bunch of other people as well) and enjoyed helping him set up the October 2018 OGR meeting. That was one of my favorite times of that York meet. Wish Ed well to a speedy recovery.

Just in via a TCA email blast:

Pennsylvania COVID-19 restrictions will be in effect. Please wear a mask in all buildings. Many tables have been relocated; some even to new buildings. Some entrances will remain closed.

Hate to say it, but this may impact my willingness to even attend the event. I am not terribly interested in living under COVID rules for attending an event that I associate with a 'normal' life. A full day of mask wearing is just not something that I would look forward to, no matter how much I look forward to attending York. And the mask requirement will pretty much negate the whole purpose of our "Wear Are You" contest for rather obvious reasons.

Stay tuned!

And when the left doesn't know what the right is doing (just did a Google search for PA COVID Restrictions):

Pennsylvania has lifted most COVID-19 restrictions The restrictions do not apply to Philadelphia, which has its own COVID-19 mitigation measures. Municipalities and school districts, if they so choose, may continue to implement stricter restrictions.

A wise decision......but, as one of the "York Regulars", Ed will be missed by all his train buds!

Not looking to get political here, but the reason for that statement is that the masks are the only big restriction (besides size of gatherings, which I think is 1/2 maximum occupancy) that PA still has. At one time, there were more stringent restrictions in place.

For those of you concerned about the masks, I do find that a paper one is less restrictive than a cloth one, if that helps.

As for the contest, could we remove the masks just for the photo? I know here in Pa even with how strict we are with school masks, we are allowed to do that in elementary schools.

A clarification from the president of TCA can be found in this thread:

Thanks for posting the link to that clarification (which I was just about to do, but you beat me to it)!

Dave Minarik and I will still be at York and we will still be doing the "Wear Are You?" contest in accordance with the rules Alan Arnold has posted. I was a bit concerned at first because the last thing I would want to see on this forum would be a lot of photos of folks wearing face masks since the whole point of the contest is to apply faces to names, and to recognize/thank those who support the forum and the magazine.

I talked with Ed and he really wants to be at York but it is more important that he gets better!  So, as Allan said above, Ed will be watching from the sidelines so to speak.  He was concerned about the Grandstand meeting but because of the absence of some of the regulars, the meeting was going to be rather short anyway.

I will be manning the computers and phones in the office here at the "OGR World Headquarters" waiting for you all to email your pictures.  NO TEXTS PLEASE!!  I will not include pictures being texted to me so be sure to email them.  Best address is adman@ogaugerr.com but you can also send them to info@ogaugerr.com since I can get them from the moderator at that address.  I will have a special thread going in the featured topics and will up date it daily through the end of the meet.  REMEMBER....review the rules of the contest!

Thanks so much everyone!

Alan

Hi All,

First time I've been on the Forum in a couple of weeks. Sorry to hear of Ed's health travails, but glad to hear he's on the mend. Sorry, too, to hear of the cancellation of the Forum "grandstand" meeting but it would seem odd not seeing him M.C.ing it anyway. As noted, it's Ed's baby, after all.

Hope Ed's back on his feet and 100 percent in time for the April 2022 meet.

Stay well, everyone, and, for those of you making it to York this time around, Kathie and I will see you in a week.

Chris
