So I have two questions. One is it’s been a year since the original announcement. Have they put any more updates out about when to expect it?

Second. I currently have MTH DCS. I was going to buy a TMCC base to run lionel stuff with the DCS remote. Since it’s the simplest and least expensive option. But I’ve been holding off because it seems with base 3 I could run all lionel stuff from my phone or tablet using cab3 and then all my mth with the dcs. Since lionel is all radio and dcs is through the track, there shouldn’t be an issue running them off the same power supply and track correct?

Correct, you can run all of your TMCC/Legacy and MTH DCS locomotives on the same power supply, track, and both from you phone.

If the base1l with work with DCS (and it sounds like it does), you can go that route.  If you have a layout already and are looking to run command control, then the base 1l will work. It is certainly cheaper than buying the cab2 base anywhere, that is for sure, and with base 3 still being vaporware for the foreseeable future, it is not a bad option at the price (MRP is 299, IDK what retailers sell it for).  Then if base 3 shows up and you get past the inevitable scarcity and so forth, not to mention bugs, you can always upgrade. The 1l could be sold to offset spending money on the base 3 or kept as a backup.

Also with 1l, you can run the lionel legacy and tmcc engines with the remote as well if you buy the set. When I originally wrote this response (I edited it), I didn't realize you can buy the 1l base by itself, that would make it a relatively cheap stand in. Only thing is looking around I haven't found any dealers with just the base (you can buy the replacement remote pretty easily), most places that have it in stock have the command base/remote pair that is the 299).

Grab the command base and start running your Lionel stuff with DCS.

I generally agree but ...

What if you have bugs in your hookup?  If you do they will be very difficult to iron out without having a Cab-x also; or perhaps borrowing one if you can.

Do we see a lot of this kind of problem reported here in the forum?  Not a huge number, but some, especially from newbies.

On YouTube take a look at Hennings Trains, The Train Shop weekly, they went to Amherst and around the 34-35 minute mark they have Dave Olsen showing the latest with the CAB3 app.

Thanks for the heads up and thanks to Hennings for providing the video.  I like what I see so far.  I suspect there is still a variable momentum (not shown) and some other goodies not addressed.  Like the optional red knob.  I hope it has some tactile feedback to the phone.

Nice job @Dave Olson and team!  It's looking good!

I saw it’s been pushed back yet again. Now they’re saying August of 24’

It's been August of 2024 since probably last December (ish).  Dave mentioned on the Live Legacy Meeting in November it would hopefully be on the water in the spring which would put it here in June/July so August is pretty much on schedule.  On another thread he said they are in production so August would be pretty good and the Lionel Store shows it as August.  I would assume barring any unforeseen circumstances we will see it in August.

Here is Dave's reply from another thread...

From Dave Olson.
