I've been testing all my surplus PS1 Boards, and I've come across another new issue. On this board, as soon as power is applied, the copper circuit fires and everything just freezes.

I know the chip is good, I've been using it to test my other boards. I also know the problem is somewhere in the top board where the chip is, because I swapped the bottom board for known working one and the problem persists.

Unfortunately, there don't seem to be many repair options on the top board. I've examined the whole board as closely as I can, and I see no obvious burns or lifted or bad traces. Also looked closely at all they capacitors and their solder joints, nothing that strange there either.

An important but that you don't see in the video that is likely a clue: if the coupler is OPEN at startup, the coupler coil fires continuously until I manually shut the coupler knuckle. Odd.

I'm guessing the processor is bad, in which case I'm tossing it. Just seeing if any of you guys have ideas before I junk the board.

Video attached.

the copper circuit fires?  what is that?

LOL, yes I meant "coupler".  Although there is copper involved. You can hear the coupler solenoid buzzing and buzzing but when you press the knuckle closed, it stops.  It's not a short in the coupler itself because I've used this test rig before and after successfully on several other boards, so the issue is definitely in the card somewhere.

Do you guys know which voltage regulators run which components on those boards?  I have some spares.
