I note that the "Lionel" A-6 of 20 years ago has the correct tender and a boiler tube pilot.  Sunset did one like that - it was very lightweight brass, but fairly accurate.

If your only reference is the Lionel catalog depiction you are wrong. I have the early S.P. A-6 and it was made exactly like the latest one, with a Pennsy E6 Atlantic chassis, slatted pilot and all. The Sunset Models brass A-6 was correct.

To be clear: I'm talking about the mispelled "Missouri".

Bummer. Hopefully it is just isolated incidence but probably not. I will find out on Monday and report back.

Wow.  Just wow.

I was thinking maybe I could shop around for one of the MoPac engines (this casting is correct for the MoPac) in a few years.  But that error is just plain discouraging.

Wow.  That sucks...  i thought you were complaining about your quality sticker was crinkled...

Yeah man, it really does.  The vendor is checking their inventory so I'm hoping for an exchange.  I fear they're all this way though.

This is pathetic. Isn’t this something Lionel would / should replace like they’ve done with recent F paint botch job ?

Just went and looked at the art work in the catalog and it appears to be misspelled and confirmed by looking at the pictures on RO's site. So I looked at the art work on the new 4-8-4 that I also ordered and it is the same misspelling. So I guess we can't blame the Chinese this time. That quality checked sticker is not very reassuring.

Lionel does the catalog. They should be responsible.  And I can’t read the letters on the TINY picture anyway. The blurry pic Looks like  Missouri Pacific Lines like we would expect. I just expect better !!!!  This is simple stuff.

Where did this picture come from?  That's the not picture in my catalog.  My catalog shows #5307.  I just looked at my catalog picture with a jewelers loupe and you can't really tell.  In any case, it doesn't really matter and I don't blame the Chinese.  Lionel is the company.

Mike,

This picture is from the new 2019 Vol 2 catalog. It is the new 4-8-4 that I just ordered when Lionel agreed to put a coal tender behind it. But it is misspelled just like the Mountain. I had to go to RO's site where the Mountain pictures can be blown up nice and large and there it is "Missiouri Pacific Lines"

I see.  Thanks, Joe.

While they’re at it, ask them to fix the spacing between the words. It looks like they typed two spaces between MISSIOURI and PACIFIC, but used three or four spaces between PACIFIC and LINES. That jumped out at me before I noticed the misspelling. I’m sure new tender shells are coming - they’ll make it right - but, gosh, this has to be frustrating, especially for those of you who have to wait years between releases for certain roads like MoPac.

I noticed that and chalked it up to the extra "I" in Missouri.  I wish I shared your faith by the way.

RickO,

I suspect you weren't singling me out but I want to explain anyway.  I am new to O Gauge.  So I don't want to get lumped in as a Lionel loyalist.  When the Lionel catalog came out last year, I was excited to see some midwest road names and I placed preorders for four Legacy engines.  They were the first Legacy engines I purchased and sadly may be the last.

Imagine my horror over the last 12-18 months as the Lionel problems unfolded.  I took delivery of two Legacy diesels earlier this year.  Both had problems.  Fast forward to today and I absolutely dreaded the delivery of this engine (my only steamer).  It was easily the most expensive engine I ever purchased.  We'll see how it plays out.  But for this newbie, Lionel is now 0 for 3.  Now I'm really dreading the delivery of that fourth engine!  But I have been taught a valuable (and expensive) lesson about Lionel.

Pre Fairfax Harrison Southern in black.

I looked over and found two issues, tender water capacity is 1200 vs 12000 and the hole in the boiler for the whistle steam.  My first engine with whistle steam,  I always cut smoke off to keep the mess down.  I know many like the feature, but holes in boilers??  I'll have to live with it.20190823_16414120190823_16251720190823_16250820190823_162456

Is that a casting seam on top of the smokebox, before and after the smokestack, in the second photo?

Could be one thing... China!

Maybe in my old age and vision, it will look like 'Missouri' on my train shelf.

I've been wanting more MP steam...

Well I begged MTH for YEARS for Premier MP, T&P, Frisco, and MKT steam. Total done = four/ MP T&P switcher (same run/model) , Frisco Meteor-Will Rogers (same run/model) In all these years. Nice but that’s is. Otherwise crickets .........😑So I gave up. Even with a Missouri misspelling, it’s Sooooo much more than I’ve seen from MTH. MP and Frisco in one run. Stunning. Now whens the MKT in steam ?
