When I have asked about the 1522 I was told that "Midwest Road names don't sell". Admittedly that was 15 years ago, but seems like they stick to it.

I tried getting MTH to do a build to order (BTO) Mikadopalooza. Just a Black engine or black and silver. Nice big plain vanilla run. Change a road name, number, some chatter differences. How hard can that be???? The build and paint all the same !!! Only differences some stenciled letters. CRICKETS !!!!!!! !!!MISSED SALES !!!!! I haven’t bought any MTH in years as they don’t ever do my roads !!!!!! Oops. They finally DID re issued a Frisco E8. I bought 2 powered “A” and an unpowered “A”. Amazingly no “B” unit - prototypically correct.

Still a fun thread, even with all the nested repeats.
If your only reference is the Lionel catalog depiction you are wrong. I have the early S.P. A-6 and it was made exactly like the latest one, with a Pennsy E6 Atlantic chassis, slatted pilot and all. The Sunset Models brass A-6 was correct.
My reference was the photo pasted on this thread. The poster represented it as the Lionel A-6 with Daylight colors. I have not a clue, except to say that I personally know what the A-6 looks like - sort of:

Unrelated, but here is an A-3, and then back to Mountains. Seaboard was copied from a photo in a 1950s "Trains" magazine. I have no idea what color the boiler was, but chose a light blue metallic. The photo showed light grey.
Shame about those graphics. From what I hear, you are all quite lucky to get model trains from China, let alone accurate ones. Consider decals - properly done, they can do what you want in a hurry.

Bob,
I beg your pardon. I got so excited about the new spelling that I forgot to follow through on my promise. I only have these three additional photos. I would have taken more but I lost my zeal for photography after discovering the error.

Mike,
It does look nice - otherwise. I have the same engine coming Monday so I am disappointed like you. Hopefully Lionel will come through and fix the tenders for us. I have a feeling they will.

I hope so... there are things that just have to be right to me...
Oh the irony...Missouri is spelled correctly on the label.
Im not sure where the disconnect is but Lionel needs to correct some of these latest gaffs. As a guy who has a lot of Lionel and loves the Legacy system, I really want to see them shine.

And probably order guides, catalogs, etc...
Aside from the spelling errors, does anybody know what the whistles sound like on these engines?

I have really enjoyed all the special runs being done by dealers over the last few years. I think MrMuffins did 7 or 8 alone in the 2019v1 catalog. Other dealers did them, too. I look forward to the special runs as much as the catalog itself. Maybe there is a dealer in your neck of the woods who would do this one for you. It seems well suited for a special run given the relatively low minimums needed to support it.

Don't forget the Northfolk Southern.
Actually, i am not aware of any other Lionel mispellings like this...

At this point I'd be happy if Lionel or MTH would run their scale USRA Mikado with a Vanderbilt oil tender and letter it for Southern Pacific. Otherwise the only SP Mikado in 3 rail was made by 3rd Rail years ago. Yeah it won't be accurate like the 3rd Rail model but I'll take what I can get.
Suspect prototype photos that may be copyrighted were deleted. Unless you have permission, do not use copyrighted photos and if you took them yourself or have permission, then note that in your post.
"Actually, i am not aware of any other Lionel mispellings like this.."
As noted, there are a few others amongst the thousands of products over the last few decades. One might add that MTH and K-Line have had a few of their own. Cannot remember the specifics, but it happens from time to time when you have non-native speakers doing the production, whether Japanese, Korean or Chinese. These cultures don't even use the same alphabet as the Western world, indeed, no formal alphabet at all . Should be easily fixed at Concord, NC.

I think you are right. It doesn’t excuse the gaffe by any means, but they aren’t gonna stick you guys with those tender shells that are clearly wrong. In the meantime, you have some other great new stuff.
You can't really blame the Chinese and Koreans for misspelling English words.
Just look at the way Americans spell words on forums like this.
loosing, shiney, to, too and two. It's enough to make a good speller tear out his hair.
The tender shell is easy to remove and only one connector for the lights would have to be disconnected and reconnected so it is an easy swap.

I need some advise concerning this.
Re: casting seam on top of smoke box, yes it is. My TMCC versions have this too but not as prominent.

Lou- do you mean this one, a totally accurate Sunset Models/3rd Rail MK-6 Mikado, nothing misspelled runs like a charm, with sound & smoke........ and yes, I'm happy!

Nobody ordered the new haven?
Dj'sOgaugetrains posted:Nobody ordered the new haven?
I'm sure someone did, but just hasn't spoken about it yet.
Are the whistles on each road name different? Or are they the same? I would like to see the New Haven variant as well if anyone can so kindly post some pictures.
Dj'sOgaugetrains posted:Nobody ordered the new haven?
This is an old one. Pictures show my New Haven Mountain 4-8-2 #3310 produced by Lionel (6-28058) around 2000 with TMCC, Odyssey, Railsounds. I believe the prototype was a USRA design.

I think the Frisco version has the Vision Line Big Boy whistle. Even though I never heard it yet, but that's just my guess.
New Heaven, no doubt.
or not...
Did the Southern have mountains to run in the mountains?

Yes in part, but also because their light weight Pacific's were having troubles with the longer heavy passenger consist.

Yup. The problem is finding one, since it's out of production and the run was small. Lionel or MTH are not going to make the tooling for this locomotive. Best to hope for with them is a "close enough" model using a USRA Mikado as the base.
Well I received my Mopac version yesterday. I finally opened it this morning and sure enough that 51 state of the Union. "Missiouri"
I spoke with Lionel warranty repair this morning. I was told they are aware of the problem, are looking into a solution, and "should have an answer in a week or two".
Could anyone confirm the whistle used on the Frisco? Is it like the Southern locomotive posted earlier in the thread or is it the Big Boy whistle? Appreciate it

Thanks Mike. I was getting ready to call myself. I will wait to see what Lionel's response is.
