Hi,

New member here, locating to the Greensboro area of North Carolina in May.  Is there anyone here that has an O layout?  I've got rolling stock and a desire to build a layout once I buy a home in NC.  I'd love to connect with others who have layouts in that area and maybe even build an LCCA module to bring to shows.

About me:  My dad bought the 211 Texas Special Freight starter set in 1964, which I still have (and it runs like a champ).  And, as with most others, has a broken skirt on the dummy unit :-)  I've been a docent at the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum since 2013.  Last fall I visited the NC Transportation Museum and rode behind the 611.

Jack, welcome to the NC Piedmont area. Although currently closed to the public there's a group of friendly and welcoming guys in Mebane which is very close to Burlington.  They've built an awesome display.  Pre-Covid they've also hosted a well attended Annual Train Show in March (unfortunately it's been cancelled for the last two).

I'm not sure if they still meet but there also used to be an O Gauge club in Graham.

What brought you to NC other than the rain, humidity and pollen?

Ain’t that the truth, .....I’m in eastern NC, ....pollen looks like a sulfur snow,......until it rains, ....

Jack, looks like you’ll be moving into the land of humidity just in time for the NC Transportation Museum’s back shop train show in May, .....that’s an enjoyable time, ......we spend the whole day there, checking out the goodies for sale, and enjoying the museum,....according to the web site, the show is a go,...hoorah!!!...

Jack,

Welcome to central North Carolina. There is a bit of 3 rail activity in the area as well as a fair amount of 2 rail O. Train show May 1-2 at fairgrounds in Raleigh. It is sponsored by the Neuse River Valley Model Railroad Club. See our website at nrvclub.net.

Come visit at Nicks Trains at 5201 Oak Park Rd , Raleigh. We have a large inventory of new and used 3rail as well as HO, N and Z. Introduce yourself when you come by. I work there 4 days a week.

Welcome to NC, Jack.  I'm in Newton (about 90 minutes west of Greensboro).  Our son graduated from Elon so I've been to Burlington numerous times.

I hear lots of people complaining about the humidity in NC.  We moved here from eastern Pennsylvania.  The humidity in NC is nothing compared the middle Atlantic states.

I have a partially completed layout (can't currently operate any trains) and have major renovations planned before it will be operable.

Jack,

Welcome to North Carolina, we moved here from Pennsylvania about 5 years ago and love it here. I went on the same search when we arrived. Fortunately I had success. The Southeastern Narrow Gauge and Short line Museum is located in Newton, NC about 90 minutes west of Greensboro. The museum itself has a splendid collection  of full size trains with a restored depot. The building next to the depot is the model railroad center where we have layouts of all scales. A large O scale layout, in the process of building a large HO layout as well as N scale. The depot is also home to the Yadkin & Catawba Model RR Club, we have a modular traveling layout the we take to trains shows and other community functions. We have several members from the Statesville/ Winston-Salem area. Any questions please ask, we would love to show you our facility.

HI - i relocated to Charlotte and was wondering where the closest train club/o-guage layouts might ne - have been to Spencer - Little Choo-Choo shop and the Lionel Store at Carolina Mills Mall - but was looking for any local to Charlotte layouts - i dont have much space so i usually just put up a layout/display around the Christmas Holidays
