My grandson's LC 0-8-0 starter engine is not loud enough.    He doesn't run his loco very fast so the FasTrack noise isn't drowning it out.  It seems much quieter than other engines I have heard or even my Lionel sound car to compare.  It doesn't seem like the speaker is too small and I don't see a pot on the PCB.

Has anyone increased the loudness on one of these and if so how?

Thanks,

John

Another remedy is to add a speaker baffle, a spray can lid or even a Styrofoam cup cut down will do.  Hot glue it over the speaker to seal the back side and you'd be amazed how much louder it can be.

I actually started looking for one awhile ago.  I ended up ordering one from Lionel, but it was too small.  I'll check out some paint spray lids (cut down because they are too high).  Styrofoam next.

Thanks,

John

Did you try the volume on the remote? Hold down the "announcement" button (middle button) then use the speed dial to turn up the volume. I have an older Lionchief locomotive and the sound can go sufficiently high.

Will try that.

John

John, I have 1 LionChief engine and 2 LionChief Plus engines and the volume control apparently can vary, regardless of what the manual says. On my LC plus 2-8-2 Mikado the sound was too low. The manual advised simultaneously pressing the bell and whistle keys while turning up the throttle. But that didn't work. The locomotive just took off fast. I called Customer Service and they told me to press all THREE keys (bell, whistle, announcements) on the LionChief remote simultaneously and keep them pressed while turning throttle control to adjust sound level. That worked. And, yes, it's a little awkward to press all three keys while at the same time turning up the throttle. If that doesn't work try calling customer service.

Was worth a try John.  Two keys, Three Keys - no go on the basic LC 0-8-0.

Thanks,

John

You might look at some of the small plastic drinking cups or medicine cups, maybe consider fabricating a baffle out of Styrene.
