I was wondering if anyone on the forum had a bad experience when ordering from Traiworld in Brooklyn, N.Y.? It's been a number of years but today I ordered a MTH Long Island RS-3 & caboose. In the past most orders came with damage. SO I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Do companys sell inferior models to certain buyers who then sell them to the public?? Or how can it be that something is always wrong when I order from them??

Wow!  I heard others say that it was difficult trying to make a return. And charged a restocking fee.

Maybe if you're making a "buyer's remorse" return.  There's no way they're going to charge you for returning defective merchandise.  I've made many purchases from Trainworld with no issues.  In fact, most if not all of my stuff has been reboxed in a Trainworld box.  It would have to be seriously mishandled by the carrier to get damaged.

I've been a Trainworld customer for about 1,000 years now, give or take a few . Seriously, I have ordered from them dating back to when I lived in Hawaii in the 1970s-80s, and have bought a number of Large Scale, On30, and O gauge from them, primarily by mail order since I have not yet had the good fortune of visiting their store.  Not a single problem to date and they are very prompt shippers.

They are also one of the most devoted long-term advertisers we have in OGR, and they also show advertising support for virtually every other major publication in the hobby. I, personally and professionally, am very grateful for that.

I ordered from Trainworld many time with only one problem. I ordered a MTH RDC two car add on and the shipped the wrong read name. The lady I spoke to said return shipping was my responsibility even tho it was there mistake. I call back and spoke to Mr Bianco and he apologised, asked the name of the person I spoke too and sent me a return Fed Ex shipping label online.

While I have not ordered a large number of items from Trainworld over the years, their record with me is perfect. The Bianco family is first class. They have been in business many years and have a stellar reputation. They also have the best website in the industry in my humble opinion. Incredibly comprehensive, user friendly and always up to date.

That would be a no.  Also, what do you mean by "most orders came with damage"

Were these items new in box?   I very much doubt TrainWorld is going to knowing ly send you a damaged item. Also, I seriously doubt MTH, Lionel, Atlas, etc say, "let's send bad items to these specific retailers/wholesalers"

Like others here, I have been ordering from TW for years.   I had one item that had an issue out of box, and they gladly and easily replaced it and credited shipping.

Rick,

First off sorry for the bad experience during your last order way back in 2015.  I don't have any notes in your account so Im not sure what occurred at that point. Nevertheless, I updated your account to make sure all boxes are inspected and A quality boxes.  Since 2015 we have updated our boxes to be stronger, tape to have a stronger hold on the bottom, and tested many bubble wraps to find the best ones to help secure our packages. Two of our packers have been with us since my grandfather and are very experienced. Our newer packers are trained and stationed by our more senior level packers.  I did not find your recent order in our system so Im assuming it was a money order like the previous ones?   I know you order a lot of MTH and unfortunately MTH does not individually box each engine, boxcar or passenger car set which makes it more difficult for the retailer to keep in better condition.  I have brought this up to MTH so I am hoping they will start individually boxing items one day.  Needless to say if you do run into an issue feel free to reach out to me and I will do my best to make it right.

Best,

I really don't understand the purpose of this post.  Just posting questions like those above can put the wrong idea into the minds of folks who have never done business with a company.  We don't know what kind of damage and if it was caused because of handling during shipment...or whatever.  Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the first question/sentence being asked but the rest of the post is in my mind inappropriate because of its implications without knowing both sides of the story.   Thread closed.
