This was my Lionel PW 218 Santa Fe Alco from the early 60's.  Some years ago I "restored" it into a pink diesel for my then 8 year old daughter.  Now she is 12 and we both cherish it.

Restoration included adding the metal nose support bracket to replace the missing pilot.  I didn't like the look at the bottom so I added a pre-bent piece of 1/2 round styrene and faired it into the body shell.

Stripping in Citrus degreaser, then some body putty to fill the heat stamping, primer and the candy pink paint.  Also rebuilt the e-unit, re-did the wiring, new brushes, clean and lube.

It was a really fun project and it helped my daughter see the fun in playing with trains.
