Menards still had their sale prices in effect as of the 26th. I picked up an exclusive Soo diesel freight set for $159 marked down from $299.

The Urbandale IA store still had a few but the boxes were rough. Lots of cars and buildings at both Urbandale and Ankeny stores.

Santa brought me the last in stock flat with Menards pickup truck... Thanks Santa!

Funny this topic should come up, I was just thinking about my December 26th experiences, being the "day after" retail sales big day.

Lots of stores were really busy, and I enjoyed some time at a LHS in my old town while visitng family. That was early on Monday, and we traveled home mid day. My wife wanted to hit the mall and see if there were any bargains, so we trekked out later that day. I decided to try another train shop, so we pulled in to Just Trains in Newark, DE. They were closed.

I just couldn't believe that. Now calm down, I'm not saying folks don't need a break after a week of busy holiday sales and busy days, but really, there is something called a RETAIL REALITY. That is - the day afer Christmas is a brisk retail day. If you want to be in retail, accept the reality.

I love those guys, and I love shopping at that store. Maybe their internet sales are bigger than the store front, but I think the commitment to being a retailer should be understood. Let's just call it a mistake that might be a learning experience for the new management. Things are tough enough, don't miss any opportunities.

Well, I haven't been out since Chritmas, no need to.....but, I may just wander over to the local Wal-Mart to see if they have marked down the ceramic village "Wal-Mart" bldg. The most I'd pay would be.....2 bucks.

If I put this on the layout then I would have to board up all the other businesses.

If you model that, please post the pictures... Roll Eyes
It's funny and ironic this topic has come up. I'm sitting here now at the LHS typing on the computer they have for customers and dining on complimentary donuts (these are NICE folks).

The place is piled and stacked high with older toy train and train related items of every description that have appeared during the holidays. And I just heard the owner say to everyone, "Any offer might be accepted. Just make me an offer."

Oh, he and I have a standing joke. I tell him he's going to get in trouble with the game warden over those donuts he puts out for the customers.

..for hunting over a baited field.

Its possible they did not want to be available to the public who may be first-time train purchasers calling the day after with questions, for example, like "My train doesn't run" because the wires to the lock on are not attached. It takes a lot of effort to answer questions from the public. Sometimes, the shop just has to be unavailable.

Some time ago, I went to the Ready to Roll shop in southern FL the day after Christmas, expecting the store to be open. It was not. They were closed for the week, according to a sign. My first thought was they need a break and did not want to address questions about running trains, which I presumed would arise from first-time buyers.

On the other hand, I went there with money and naturally did not buy anything.

Best, Mark

That makes the buildings about $63 (I just bought another), and the Hogwart's set $169.56.
