I have a small side project HO loop that needs scenery and I was wondering how well static grass worked? I would rather find something used to try it out but I don’t have any experience with it.

Chris, it's easy, just takes a little practice. The key is to lay down the "grass" at the right time after you put the mixed white glue down. I mix my glue with a little water. Then brush it on the surface you want. If you put your grass down too soon the it will lay down, too late and it won't stick. I practice on cardboard tell I got it right. If you mess up you can always wipe it off the area. Maybe do three test at a time and time each one so you know how long is best. Also mix the color of your grass, it looks a lot better. I haven't done it yet; but have read a bunch. For the price, look for how to convert an electric fly swatter and kitchen strainer into one. Supposedly they equal or exceed the performance of pricey ones. (-$10 or $50-$100; I'd at least try the hack for under $10 once)
I find the fly swatter variety good for spot "sodding" since you can easily control the amount of grass in the applicator. Also, the curve of the strainer helps pinpoint the application area. However, for large areas, the fly swatter is a pain. Watch the many videos out there to get an idea of the process. You can always sell the grasser later.
