Hello,

So I recently got my hands on a Lionel TMCC Southern Pacific GS-2. However I noticed while running her with the sound down and smoker off she’s making an odd noise. I’m slightly alarmed. Should I be concerned or is this a natural sound?

Sounds like the smoke unit fan! Not 100% sure but the loco is an older version, perhaps Odessey. Is there smoke coming out of the stack? I have a couple of older TMCC engines, with some of them making the same noise, it's normal! Someone else with more experiance will chime in.

Yes, the smoke unit motor needs some oil on the top bearing. It happens twice per revolution of the drivers. On Lionel, the smoke unit motor runs whether the smoke switch is on or off. The switch turns on/off the heaters.

Ah ha. So what oil should be applied and where?

and I don’t need to worry about this sound?
