I have been running iOS 14 beta 5 without any difficult.  There is a trick because the app has no function to search for a TIU.  Delete the app.  Then download it but don’t install it immediately.  Switch to your MTH Wi-Fi and make sure everything is on.  Now complete the app installation and it should find the TIU.  Not elegant but it works.

Steve, open the app and look at what TIU it is connected to.  When you reinstallled the app, did it ask to find a TIU or show you the one it selected?  You should not need to reboot the ipad.

After you do load the app do not install it.  If you are using the MTH DCS wifi, go to SETTINGS and change to it.  Make sure the TIU is powered up.  Then install the app.  If you are using your home wifi, make sure the TIU is powered.  Now continue installing the app.  At some point it will ask you if the TIU it found is correct.

Before going too much further with uninstalling and reinstalling the app, I would first check the privacy settings/local network and ensure that the DCS WiFi app is enabled.

I tried the app with the privacy setting on and off; it made no difference.   Because the app predated Apples privacy logic, it doesn’t seem to care.  There is a warning in the App Store that the app doesn’t not conform to Apples privacy policy.  Either way, it is best to check before going too far.

I guess what works for some might not work for others.  After my first update to 14.x every app I opened I was prompted to allow access to local network, and I usually answered No, which does not enable the local network privacy setting.  Didn’t apply to any app going out to the internet.  When my DCS WiFi app couldn’t find the TIU after the upgrade, I enabled the setting and it starting working right away.  Also found a couple of other apps that only access our streaming server in the basement that also needed to be enabled.

Edit:  I just went downstairs and ran the app with no problem.  Disabled the Local Network Privacy setting the app, and it still worked.  Cycled the power on the layout and iPad, and the error message that no TIU/WIU could be found appeared.  Enabled the setting again, and did NOT cycle the layout or the iPad and it worked right away.  Did you shut everything down to break any established connections before trying the app?

Hi Steve:

After reading your post I tested my MTH - Wi-Fi. I am using an iPhone 11 Pro with iOS 14.5 with 22 MTH Locos. I ran three locos and all is working. With that being said, I feel the MTH Handheld Controller is more reliable.

Yesterday I updated my iMac 27 inch to Mac OS Big Sur 11.3 / All is well.

1 Wi-Fi Test

In this photo I am running the C&O 492 Yellow Belly. The loco is now parked.

2 Wi-Fi Test

At this point the loco is doing 5 mph on the main line.

Hope this helps. Gary. 🚂

Ok. Thanks guys. I did notice the app does not show up in the settings where the apps show what is on the tablet. But in the network privacy setting it is there. I have iPad Air 2020 version. Just for fun I put it on my iPhone 11 Pro Max and it works with that. Guess it’s going to take so playing to get things right.

I thought it was gone, too.  You have to scroll all the way down.  It shows as Wi-Fi DCS.

This apps has been touched since 2019 when a fix was made to work with iOS 9.  Last Thursday Apple sent a message to beta testers to download iOS 14.6 beta 2.  I am away for a few days this weekend so and will not have a chance to check it out with DCS Wi-Fi.  On the positive side, the app still opens and displays correctly.

Without someone maintaining this app, there will come a day when it no longer functions.  You will need to save an iPhone, with an iOS between 9 and 14, as a dedicated controller.
