20190115_222825It occurs to me that a lazy way to upgrade my pretty MPC-era LIonel diesels might be to buy a modern diesel in any old livery and swap the bodies. Has anyone done this, and, if so, what were the issues you ran into? Either Lionel or MTH are okay with me. All I need is conventional mode, but better sound, lights, and smoke  would be swell, and am only concerned for GPs and U-boats. I expect dealing with glued/wired in lights will be a chore. Four prime candidates are in the photo.

I've swapped some MPC shells onto Williams frames, screw through the ends mounting was the same, but because of the True-Blast horn I don't think that's what your looking for.  As stated above many of the newer diesels have 4 screws up through the frame into bolsters on the corners so this wouldn't work unless you want to create bolsters (not easy but I've seen posts on repairs that may work).
