The new remote control items are intended mostly for the collector /operator that has and wants to spend the big bucks.  I don't mind spending big bucks for quality things, but not on trains.  With my transformer handles in hand, my willingness to purchase any good brand, and my desire to keep it simple, the stuff that I have purchased is usually very abundant, reliable and  affordable.  Legacy operation  is great; I'm just not in that club.

Some reference has been made in this thread about the reliability of these new products.

In short, I have purchased 12 engines in the past 15 months. Only one of these was used.

Total number of engines: 12

Number needing repair: 5 (one used)

Cost of repairs: $1180.
