How are the tracks around a turntable (whisker tracks?) ballasted? Was the ballast even with the tops of the ties, as is normal for most tracks, or was ballast used sparingly? How about the surface between the tracks?

If you have any pictures that show how this area looks, I would really appreciate if you would post them!

Yes, you guessed correctly; I am ready to finish the area around my turntable.

Thank you!!

Alex, thanks for asking this question. I am also getting ready to finish that part of the layout also. Good to see that once again, you are not letting any grass grow under you feet.

Also Alex, great article on your trestle, I am about half way through reading it. And also, it was our honor to see the fruit of your good works.

Thank you for the picture links. I had no idea that they would pack so many tracks and engines around a turntable! (First picture)

Thanks, Roger. Let' see how this turns out. I just finished wiring the whisker tracks and the TT drive, and want to get the ground cover done this weekend.

Dennis,

That was my concern as it would require a lot of ballast. I believe that I will add something (cardboard, plywood, etc,) to bring the adjacent surfaces more even with the top of the ties, and save on ballast that way.

Thank you!

I'll post pictures when I get done.

Alex
