While running an Atlas F3B unit, when I turned on smoke unit, it would immediately stop and move randomly, almost as if working against itself. Going in reverse, it ran at a consistent speed but lacking speed control.
Took shell off, no wires loose, put on separate track, ran o.k., with no issues involving turning smoke unit on/off. However, when shutting down, it would not turn off until I turned track power off.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How are you running an atlas loco using DCS? Are you running a TMCC loco with your DCS system? If so, do you have the same issue just using TMCC?
Thanks Matt. I am running my Lionel and Atlas using DCS. The other engines of both brands are running fine. I have an Atlas GP 7 running on a separate track and have no issues.
Have you worked on the smoke unit? Can you check it with a meter?
Run it conventionally and if it behaves the same chances are the smoke element is shorting to housing and causing this issue. Assuming this is a TMCC Atlas engine. G
Thanks all for input. After checking smoke unit, nothing of evidence to indicate that was the issue. I looked at several lighted cars, one a searchlight care that appears to be shorting. When I removed that, the issue cleared up and the engine runs fine.
On a secondary issue, does the DCS remote control smoke output on Atlas engines with TMCC. I realize the remote can turn it on or off but can one move from a L,M,H output akin to MTH engines?
