What turned out to be my Christmas present to myself arrived at my nearest train hobby shop, the Atlas O Premier (MTH) 44 Tonner switch engine I had ordered.  Just getting back home this evening I had my first chance to give it a try and am a little disappointed...  I haven't tried to take the shell off yet to investigate, but it doesn't run very smoothly.  In forward there's a slight jerkiness to it, and in reverse it's a lot worse and very noticeable.  I can also hear a slight ticking sound that seems like it would match the speed of one of the motors.

I was just wondering if anyone else who has picked one of these up and run it has had any similar issues with theirs?

I just wanted to give a shout out and compliment to Bill Seratelli, and Atlas overall.  With the holidays behind us, Bill and I spoke on the phone and corresponded over several emails, with the result being the 44 tonner will be on its way to Atlas to be looked at and repaired.  I definitely appreciate the help and good communication back and forth to get this taken care of.

I can't speak to what may or may not be different about this since previous production runs...  But I thought I'd once again give a shout out to Bill and Atlas regarding this.  I got a very nice phone call after the engine was checked out and repaired explaining what the problem was and that it would be on its way back to me shortly.  Apparently the spacing on one of the axle assemblies was incorrect which they repaired.  I received it back yesterday and after giving it another test run last night am pleased to report it runs well now.  I definitely appreciate Atlas standing behind their product, and the confidence it gives to buy again in the future!
