Just got an email from Atlas. They are offering a Ukraine box car with proceeds going to the Ukraine effort. I must say it is a colorful offering. Nothing political or vulgar is refreshing. I am thinkin' I'm going to order one. Forgive me if someone has already posted about this offering.

Here is the announcement. I’m glad to see ALL the profit going to relief efforts vs others that are only donating a few bucks for Ukrainian cars. This is true philanthropy instead of profiting from a custom car based on this horrible war. They’ve got my order.

My mother in law (100% Ukrainian) would say they did it correctly because they included the crest.

Erick Train Man,My wife and her family are all Ukies

Its not a crest it's a Tryzub, you should know that

As soon as my wife saw the hippie peace sign see said no.

Also the national flower is the sunflower, and I think that is what is supposed to be around the peace sign, which looks horrible.

I Have O and my wife has N, If that car was just like it is but with a slightly larger Tryzub and no peace sign she would have got it in a minute

I see your from Boothwyn,do you go to the Tryzub Ukrainian American Sport Center  folk festival in August every year?

We go every year(except for the last two)

I commend Atlas for donating all profits to Ukraine relief efforts, but don't understand that if folks truly want to support Ukraine why don't they just donate an equal amount to the cost of the rolling stock directly to relief efforts???  This same thought applies to the MTH cars as well.

I don’t think we can assume who has or hasn’t already donated money for the cause but I do think it’s a good thing for the train community that we care and are proud to run and display cars that show our support. Train clubs get a lot of traffic from open house events and I think folks would appreciate seeing cars like it. A few sales of box cars aren’t going to solve all the problems but every little bit…..

Well said.

My only disappointment with the Atlas offering is the projected delivery date - December 31, 2022.  I understand that lead times are long, but perhaps these cars could have been decorated here in the US - I would be willing to pay a higher price in order to get it faster.  I fear that by the time we can display the car, it will be after Ukraine is destroyed and it will feel like a cruel joke whenever I look at it.

Received my Atlas 1991 Ukrainian Relief Boxcar today, a month early. It will look great running under my tree.

Yesterday's NY Times magazine section had an inspiring article on the Ukrainian Railroad system and how it is able to operated during Russia's unlawful invasion.

Now, I just need some passenger cars for a refugee train!

Who did you order it from?  I ordered one from Trainworld, along with two copies of the HO version - my order is still waiting.

Take the world back 100+ years.  Baldwin Locomotive works was heavily involved, producing a steam locomotive for far eastern Europe.   There was a revolution, the U.S. government stepped-in, to keep Baldwin solvent.  MTH had done that locomotive model.

20+ years ago, when my family was in school, then college, there was a globe, I did a daily/weekly, ?? Find it ??. My guess,  from my personal experience, most, would not know the location of Ukraine, or Russia, on a globe, or a map.   IMO, Mike CT.

New word, ..... holodomor......  A quick google search, revealed a lot of information.
