I understand what you are saying Nick.

I had one incredibly great experience with Atlas service.  I bought one of their  Industrial Rail trolleys brand new.  While within the warranty period the motor died.  I sent it to Atlas on a Saturday and they had it back to be by the following Friday with a new motor.  That trolley runs daily on my layout.  No problems at all.   Since then I've purchased an Atlas O Trainman Series locomotive and it run just fine.

I own numerous Atlas O diesels, a USRA 0-6-0 steam engine, and lots of their exquisite rolling stock. In my opinion, their models are nicely made at a fair price, run well, and they have been trouble-free for me in conventional mode. I have sent locomotives to Atlas O for service on two occasions. One of my SW switchers once had a circuit board replaced under warranty. The work was done correctly and it was returned to me promptly. On another occasion, I knocked a locomotive off the layout and it needed parts for repair. This took a while to return because the repair people were backlogged at the time. Bill Serratelli fixed the model for me and it looks and runs like new. I think they are a good company and I continue to buy their products.

The recent F7s are pretty cool, especially with the fixed pilot and the scale coupler.  One other feature is that the tops at the ends have a tapered hood so to speak and give the appearance of a closer coupling than it really is.  May not be prototypical but looks so nice.
