Hobart Tower has been demolished. It was on the west side of the ATSF Hobart Yard and guarded the intersection of the ATSF main and the UP branch that runs along Downey Road in Vernon, CA (next to Los Angeles). It looks like they started on the demolition over the weekend as I take Metrolink and it was there Thursday. Monday they were clearing rubble.

The tower hasn't been used in decades and from appearances itlooks like homeless were camped inside it and had set a fire inside. Sadly, with CTC in use the time of the interlocking towers seems to have passed into history.

This was a Union Pacific tower, although, far and away, most of the train movements were Santa Fe.  Hobart Tower did not issue train orders for Santa Fe trains.  That was done a half mile east at an office called Hobart Telegraph.

Thanks. All these years I thought it belonged to Santa Fe because of the traffic pattern.
