Thanks when it arrived I will notify REA Dispatch and it can get to work dropping some trailers off at the C.E.S. Warehouse. Thanks my friend and I will ship it back ASAP. Will it be taking the Phoebe  Route?

WOW guys, some wonderful photos of some great looking cars and truck in outstanding scenes! I am sorry I have nothing to offer today as there has been an ongoing request to get things done around here before snow falls! LOL I will try and get some shots of my tank area with a couple of the tankers loading up. Granted this all has to be done before the light comes up in the morning.

Thanks, Lee - pic's of finished model below. The two figures came with the kit and are also hand-painted. Everything was molded from the factory in a bright green color (including wheels and tires), so everything had to be hand or spray (rattle can) painted. I also moderately detailed the undercarriage. It was a difficult build because the cab is not one piece. It is formed by the fender assembly, front bumper, two doors, roof and cab backing plate which all have to be cemented in place at basically the same time to get everything matched up. I also had to find 4 different colors of brown for the boxes, barrels, stakes and truck bed. All the cab pieces were sprayed with dull coat after painting. The decals, even after 65 years, went on fairly easily using Micro-Sol, although I can see from the pic's,  need to trim the "Chevrolet" decal on the front bumper.

I have three more of these to do and will gradually get to them. For now, I want to concentrate on getting my roundhouse built. The only question is whether I should weather the truck now that it is done ?

Thanks for the link Richie. I will refer to this often when I get around to building the truck.

I like to bring this guy to shows on occasion, no clue if Optimus Prime is a proper 1/43rd scale but he fits in well enough with the other O gauge vehicles in his vehicle mode and kids love it when he's duking it out with Megatron somewhere on the layout. I even slightly modified his trailer to accept a K-line railmate wheelset so it can act as part of my roadrailer/intermodal freight train.

Thanks.  Don't know who made the truck, all it says on it is "Made in China".  Didn't come in a package, I found it loose on the bottom of a shelf in a local antique store.  I like to browse through them here once every few months.  Most of the time come away empty handed but you never know when you'll find something interesting.

Are there any markings on the bottoms of them?  Are they metal or plastic?  They could be worth a few bucks to collectors, depending on the above questions.

They were made by Aurora back in the 60s there 1/64 scale I have some with the original boxes. They were made of plastic and they came as a glue together kit. They were targeted for the American Flyer “S” scale group

Lee, that bottom tank truck looks exactly like the 1/48 kit formerly by Revell, and that we know from our previous postings. (Although it doesn’t look as well detailed). Is it possible they scaled it up from the Aurora kit?

Yeah I always thought that but the other way around I always thought Aurora copied Revell Revell firs can put with there’s in 1955  it even builds like the old Revell one too but the wheels are horrible

Took me forever to find this thread.  Does anyone have comments regarding Diecast Masters products? (1:50)  I've bought a number of those recently and am blown away by the quality and detail.  (I will try to get motivated and post photos of them.)  I've noticed they're slowly making HO Scale variants available as well.

As for 1:43, I just can't handle the scale difference.  It's too jarring to have those vehicles on my layout.

Yes, I have. But doesn’t Diecast Masters only make commercial trucks, earthmoving and mining models? I didn’t think they made 1:50 scale models of passenger automobiles.

I used to work for Caterpillar and got some of their earthmoving equipment towards the end of my employment when they took over the 1:50 scale diecast models from Norscot and Tonkin Replicas. I liked that Diecast Masters included an operator / driver model, clothed in Hi-Visibility outfits in the cab of the models they imported, even in models that were previously imported by Norscot.

These are just my opinion,

You are correct, no vehicles.  However, I do have a number of the commercial trucks which works for me since I'm almost entirely Intermodal.  They do have some of the Caterpillar rail equipment which I have purchased.  The running joke is, you should buy them because it comes with a cookie tin and a man.

I also worked for Caterpillar at one time in history.

I'm lining up my next purchase...I'm thinking a Peterbilt Semi with sleeper, a bulldozer, some type of rock scooper, and one of the small scoopers you see at Garden shops.

If you are impressed with Caterpillar scale models from Diecast Masters, then you should look at even finer details on the Caterpillar models from Classic Construction Models (ccmodels.com).

Unlike Diecast Masters that makes mass produced models in 1:50 scale (along with fewer choices in 1:87 and other smaller scales), CCM makes expensive, highly detailed, limited edition models in 1:48 scale and some larger scales.

Using a crude and simplified analogy, if Diecast Masters could be comparable to an Atlas Trainman model then CCM would be comparable to Atlas Master Line.

I worked for Cat in Morton, Ill for a spell.

I can't find any AFFORDABLE 1970s era Cats in 1/56- 1/64 anywhere.  They'd make grand flatcar loads and a sales yard full of some would be yellowly spectacular.

I still live in Central Illinois and I have seen vintage Caterpillar models at hobby shows. Specifically, Galesburg, IL has an annual Railroad Days celebration, late June. There is a toy and train show and I have seen older Caterpillar models for sale, made by Ertl and maybe, NZG. Perhaps, you could visit any hobby shows in your area.

Also, Diecast Masters has this “Core Classics” line that has older models with lesser details, likely made from older Norscot tooling.

Diecast Masters also have “Evolution Series” that includes 2 models, like the latest generation of a machine and an older generation of the same machine.

I have picked up a # of the IXO trucks they are a good price, very good value and detail for the $. I have a lot of 1/25 & 1/24 truck kits build them when time. From what I can see all the trucks that IXO has released in 1/43 have had the same trucks; released in the past in 1/24 and 1/25 scale model kits. Have not seen any other trucks they have done that have not already been done in a model kit form!!! Thus I wonder if they are using the 1/25 scale models to 3D scan or size to reproduce in 1/43 scale?????

I was looking at the IXO 1/43 GMC General and Ford LTL 9000 conventional cab trucks sitting on my shelf and then looked over to the model kits. I compared the IXO models and the Ford is wider, taller, bigger overall over the GMC. Looking at the model kits the GMC was done in 1/25 scale and the Ford in 1/24 scale. I wonder if they are copying them if they take the scale size difference into consideration? Perhaps not if the end result is different in the final 1/43 IXO models. I assume they have done the same thing for the cars as well !!!!!!

This is known as the; Lionel Route 66 Dino Cafe 6-22993 came out a # of years back. I ordered it after finishing my Sinclair tankers and saw it on line and thought it would be a perfect fit, it is sitting in my Radiator Springs village with all Disney Cars movie theme vehicles, fits right in with the town. There might still be one left at the Christmas train store they did have a couple of them. They are closing down and clearing everything out on sale right now; https://christmastrainstore.ca/ In Canadian $'s but when you do the exchange rate you will see it is considerably less in US$ Contact them to see if it is still in stock. They are pricy on e-bay.

Morning guys, you all have some great looking rigs! Sorry I haven't been around for a little while as life took me way from anything to do with trains!

I did get out to the train room yesterday and did a little work and also pulled this tractor trailer out and put it back on the layout. I am sure you all have seen it before, but I sure like it and it looks so perfect for a O gauge layout.

Menards has a new vintage bus on a flat car that looks nice for the price note on a 10 1/2 inch flat car;

https://www.menards.com/main/g...590386137&ipos=1

it is similar to the Corgi Flxible Clipper 1/50 scale which are pricy if you can find them now; here is a photo with a Menards 11 1/2 inch flat car. Would look good on the layout and make an interesting repaint project. Looks to be a little smaller then the Corgi bus.

They’re both made by Greenlight collectibles. I purchased them on Diecast Direct site. A bit disappointed in the quality considering the price. For the amount they cost one would think they’d have opening doors  and trunks. Or am I still living with 20 years ago prices in my head?  All and all they’re nice cars.

1955 Cadillac Fleetwood a la Elvis Presley. It looks like a replica of his as it has the spot light on the fender just in front of the driver side mirror. One of his many pink Cadillacs! Nice Model! I too have a model of one of his convertible pink Caddy's on my layout.

I am aware of the Elvis connection, it’s on the box. I think I’m parking it behind Madam Wongs on the wrong side of the tracks for now🤪. Elvis is in the building. I had picked up a boxed set of Downtown deco buildings at a train show. They were called “wrong side of the tracks”.  I still haven’t put much of the ads on them yet.

Great weathering job on both the truck and the structure, but is it just me or does the structure look almost small enough to be carted away by the truck?

It's just a large truck and a very small station. I was actually wrong, it's an International Harvester KB truck. They were large trucks for the time, even the 1/50 model measures 20 scale feet long. The station is a little compressed, but I think it does a good job of representing the typical small rural station that would have been built in the 1920s or 30s.

OBXTrainman sorry the level of detail was a little disappointing.  I picked up a white '53 Eldorado convertible at Dollar General for $5.  Detailed the interior and added Dwight and Mamie.  I posted it earlier in this thread.

Tom that's a cool Rescue 51.  I also like the NYC flatcar it's riding on.

You can be your own source.  Get good photos of what you want and take them someplace where you can have them reduced to the size you want. I use A&E Reprographics locally.  It isn't very expensive.

A man I share interests with even has 1/24 scale package labels made so he can put maps, product packages, etc in his auto models.  He's a multiple prize winner in the area and known all over the country.

Buy a decal kit from Micro Mark.  They have them for both ink jet and laser printers and they work beautifully.  Hint: you can make all sorts of signage including window transparencies.  (I print the windows on overhead projector transparency sheets and just cut an entire window out at one time.)

I do use decal sheets for lots of projects, but 1/43 license plate decals are so small I don't think either my computer, it's program or my printer would be able to create and/or reproduce something that small with a degree of clarity that would be acceptable to me.

Thanks for the tip about A&E - I'll check that out.

I've seen1/24 scale cigarette packs and soda pop bottle labels, both very small.  You may have to shop around for someone who can do the work.  We have three A&Es locally and only one can do that tiny a job, but I can do a lot that isn't much larger on my own ink jet HPEnvy Photo 6255.

Biggest problem I have is scaling them down to start with.  I did a whole raft of book covers for a book store interior.

Thanks! It's likely close to 1/43-scale, as that was, I believe, the standard for the European diecast manufacturers (and I think 1/43 was the scale for European O-gauge). Dinky, manufactured by Meccano, was scaled to match the Hornby O-gauge line. Some of the larger vehicles like buses and trucks shaded upwards from 1/50 to 1/55, I believe.

Thank you, Scott. I bought the Scenicruiser from Corgi several years ago when they first came out. Had to have this particular livery with the gold striping, because I rode on one of these from San Francisco to San Luis Obispo and on another one from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City as a teenager way back in 1962. Will hopefully get some pics of the rest, soon. Finally got a school bus(1/50 by Daron)

Nice pics Patrick. That Dump Truck is a KB 6 International not a White although that tanker is a British White around the 40s. My Grandpa had one of these KB Internationals as a road tractor same color and same disc wheels. I like that truck I wish I would have bought one of those when White Box the first came out with them.

Here you go guys, a couple of shiny tankers picking up so fuel for town and a sharp looking I believe it's a Kenworth. I think he is just taking his mandatory break from driving!

Oh and how can I forget the new Peterbuilt in the background dropping some gators off at Menards Feed & Seed!

Mike, great scene...with all that diesel power, you must have your own 10,000 tank to keep those tanks full!

Here are some closer pics of my York purchases, but first:

picked this up a couple weeks ago and have been looking for one for 2+ years- K-line ISO tank trailer chassis

Lee - thanks for the information!   Much appreciated!    I'm making changes in my post to include your information.   When I originally posted I was going by what I "thought" I remembered seeing on the boxes in which those trucks came. LOL!

Nice ISO Matlack tank. I work for Dana Transport they bought out my company about 4 years ago I see lots of  ISO tanks on our yard now there pretty interesting I’ve never pulled one though.

@lee drennen

Lee:

Your work assembling and modifying the kit is superb! Are the kits still available? If so, where can they be purchased?

Thank you.

Randy thanks for the complement. I’m pretty sure you can no longer get these. You can try Dan’s Models from Romania. Just a warning the Resin is very bad after a couple years it started to warp especially the frame that why I rebuilt this one and repainted it. I also added Don Mills tires and wheels.

VW pickup truck ...  about 12 or more years ago I bought  several of these VW pickups at my grocery store in the toy section for $1.00 each!   I always check out the toy section of that grocery store.  No telling what will turn up.  I've also bought 1:43 scale farm equipment( cultivator/ disc & hay wagon) for $1.00 each. 83B3F13D-E2F8-46C8-A205-2539B25038518BEB0D4D-2DEA-41AA-9440-B0D3648146D6

Patrick, any time I see one of those car displays in a supermarket or drug store I always check it out.  Even though the majority is in the 1/32 range you never know what you may find.

I agree, a lot are 1/32 and a lot are too modern for my '50s era layout, but I have found a number of neat cars in those end of aisles displays over the years.
