Joe, your right, but I like a challenge so next time I go to Walmart I will see if I can find one and see what I can come up with. 😂
@Richie C. posted:Thanks, Lee - pic's of finished model below. The two figures came with the kit and are also hand-painted. Everything was molded from the factory in a bright green color (including wheels and tires), so everything had to be hand or spray (rattle can) painted. I also moderately detailed the undercarriage. It was a difficult build because the cab is not one piece. It is formed by the fender assembly, front bumper, two doors, roof and cab backing plate which all have to be cemented in place at basically the same time to get everything matched up. I also had to find 4 different colors of brown for the boxes, barrels, stakes and truck bed. All the cab pieces were sprayed with dull coat after painting. The decals, even after 65 years, went on fairly easily using Micro-Sol, although I can see from the pic's, need to trim the "Chevrolet" decal on the front bumper.
I have three more of these to do and will gradually get to them. For now, I want to concentrate on getting my roundhouse built. The only question is whether I should weather the truck now that it is done ?
Thanks for the link Richie. I will refer to this often when I get around to building the truck.

I like to bring this guy to shows on occasion, no clue if Optimus Prime is a proper 1/43rd scale but he fits in well enough with the other O gauge vehicles in his vehicle mode and kids love it when he's duking it out with Megatron somewhere on the layout. I even slightly modified his trailer to accept a K-line railmate wheelset so it can act as part of my roadrailer/intermodal freight train.

Hi Mayor Magoo,
Nice truck.
Where did you “find” it?
John
In addition to where did you find it, who made it? That is a really great find for sure, my layout is TV and Movies trivia. As you said...great fit!
Thanks. Don't know who made the truck, all it says on it is "Made in China". Didn't come in a package, I found it loose on the bottom of a shelf in a local antique store. I like to browse through them here once every few months. Most of the time come away empty handed but you never know when you'll find something interesting.
CA John & Mr. Mayor, the truck is a 1/32 scale 1928 Chevy pickup in the series "Vintage Trucks of Yesteryear" by The National Motor Museum Mint.
Thanks Jerry. I did find a stamp with 1928 Chevy Truck on the model. And it did look oversized but thought I could get away with it in that scene with the Homie figures.
Luv that truck!
I think that truck looks great Mr. Mayor, and I love Homies too. Nice find!
Definitely works with the Palermos, Italian Homies. As we all know the Don and his pals were larger than life just like the Homies.

Took me forever to find this thread. Does anyone have comments regarding Diecast Masters products? (1:50) I've bought a number of those recently and am blown away by the quality and detail. (I will try to get motivated and post photos of them.) I've noticed they're slowly making HO Scale variants available as well.
As for 1:43, I just can't handle the scale difference. It's too jarring to have those vehicles on my layout.

Yes, I have. But doesn’t Diecast Masters only make commercial trucks, earthmoving and mining models? I didn’t think they made 1:50 scale models of passenger automobiles.
I used to work for Caterpillar and got some of their earthmoving equipment towards the end of my employment when they took over the 1:50 scale diecast models from Norscot and Tonkin Replicas. I liked that Diecast Masters included an operator / driver model, clothed in Hi-Visibility outfits in the cab of the models they imported, even in models that were previously imported by Norscot.

If you are impressed with Caterpillar scale models from Diecast Masters, then you should look at even finer details on the Caterpillar models from Classic Construction Models (ccmodels.com).
Unlike Diecast Masters that makes mass produced models in 1:50 scale (along with fewer choices in 1:87 and other smaller scales), CCM makes expensive, highly detailed, limited edition models in 1:48 scale and some larger scales.
Using a crude and simplified analogy, if Diecast Masters could be comparable to an Atlas Trainman model then CCM would be comparable to Atlas Master Line.

Nice vehicles, and nice layout scenes, obxtrainman!
By the way, I took the truck off the flatcar, and ran the flat in a short freight with other cars, such as Atlas, Lionel, and RMT, and it ran well. The couplers are a little stiff, but I don’t do a lot of switching. Also, the Sunoco truck is not Diecast, but plastic with good detail.
Great vehicles guys! Artie I also like the Ford would look great as a parts truck!

I still live in Central Illinois and I have seen vintage Caterpillar models at hobby shows. Specifically, Galesburg, IL has an annual Railroad Days celebration, late June. There is a toy and train show and I have seen older Caterpillar models for sale, made by Ertl and maybe, NZG. Perhaps, you could visit any hobby shows in your area.
Also, Diecast Masters has this “Core Classics” line that has older models with lesser details, likely made from older Norscot tooling.
Diecast Masters also have “Evolution Series” that includes 2 models, like the latest generation of a machine and an older generation of the same machine.

Picked up this new IXO truck today. Really looks sharp.
And a Sinclair truck /trailer I painted up in a color scheme I like bright.

I have picked up a # of the IXO trucks they are a good price, very good value and detail for the $. I have a lot of 1/25 & 1/24 truck kits build them when time. From what I can see all the trucks that IXO has released in 1/43 have had the same trucks; released in the past in 1/24 and 1/25 scale model kits. Have not seen any other trucks they have done that have not already been done in a model kit form!!! Thus I wonder if they are using the 1/25 scale models to 3D scan or size to reproduce in 1/43 scale?????
I was looking at the IXO 1/43 GMC General and Ford LTL 9000 conventional cab trucks sitting on my shelf and then looked over to the model kits. I compared the IXO models and the Ford is wider, taller, bigger overall over the GMC. Looking at the model kits the GMC was done in 1/25 scale and the Ford in 1/24 scale. I wonder if they are copying them if they take the scale size difference into consideration? Perhaps not if the end result is different in the final 1/43 IXO models. I assume they have done the same thing for the cars as well !!!!!!

Ah, thanks, Tim. I have that truck. It’s a great model. I thought you folks were talking about the ice cream truck best seen in kj356’s last photo — in the back on the left — with the face in it. That’s why I was wondering whether it was a scale Disney-Pixar Cars franchise model, but it doesn’t quite look like it.
Just found it: It’s the I-Screamer and is a Disney-Pixar model afterall. Several on the Bay.
Kj356, great job on the Sinclair tanker! A very fussy kit to assemble, and although I like a more subdued paint scheme, your detail work is fantastic.
This is known as the; Lionel Route 66 Dino Cafe 6-22993 came out a # of years back. I ordered it after finishing my Sinclair tankers and saw it on line and thought it would be a perfect fit, it is sitting in my Radiator Springs village with all Disney Cars movie theme vehicles, fits right in with the town. There might still be one left at the Christmas train store they did have a couple of them. They are closing down and clearing everything out on sale right now; https://christmastrainstore.ca/ In Canadian $'s but when you do the exchange rate you will see it is considerably less in US$ Contact them to see if it is still in stock. They are pricy on e-bay.

It's just a large truck and a very small station. I was actually wrong, it's an International Harvester KB truck. They were large trucks for the time, even the 1/50 model measures 20 scale feet long. The station is a little compressed, but I think it does a good job of representing the typical small rural station that would have been built in the 1920s or 30s.

You can be your own source. Get good photos of what you want and take them someplace where you can have them reduced to the size you want. I use A&E Reprographics locally. It isn't very expensive.
A man I share interests with even has 1/24 scale package labels made so he can put maps, product packages, etc in his auto models. He's a multiple prize winner in the area and known all over the country.
Buy a decal kit from Micro Mark. They have them for both ink jet and laser printers and they work beautifully. Hint: you can make all sorts of signage including window transparencies. (I print the windows on overhead projector transparency sheets and just cut an entire window out at one time.)

I do use decal sheets for lots of projects, but 1/43 license plate decals are so small I don't think either my computer, it's program or my printer would be able to create and/or reproduce something that small with a degree of clarity that would be acceptable to me.
Thanks for the tip about A&E - I'll check that out.
I've seen1/24 scale cigarette packs and soda pop bottle labels, both very small. You may have to shop around for someone who can do the work. We have three A&Es locally and only one can do that tiny a job, but I can do a lot that isn't much larger on my own ink jet HPEnvy Photo 6255.
Biggest problem I have is scaling them down to start with. I did a whole raft of book covers for a book store interior.

Dinky, manufactured by Meccano, was scaled to match the Hornby O-gauge line. Some of the larger vehicles like buses and trucks shaded upwards from 1/50 to 1/55, I believe.
Wow, over a month without a new post. Restoration projects must have dried up. Here's the latest $5 hot rod from Dollar General, a 1969 Pontiac Goat. While not wearing The Judge decals the color does look like it. The GT40 is 1/48 scale Testor's model kit and the Richard Petty Superbird is a 1992 Racing Champions product.

Patrick, I’ll say it again, that hook and ladder fire truck is awesome! You also always manage to find cool automobiles that unfortunately didn’t make it, like the Ford Edsel and Tucker! Thanks so much Scott! Yes, I had to have an Edsel ... I found it on E bay several years ago. You have a good eye ... yep that's a 54 Caddy Coupe de Ville.
David, are the cars you owned the ones around the blue house, some of the ones at bthe show or a combination of both?
The red Jeepster, The blue '68 Ford, the Metropolitan (owned by my late wife before we were married) were all owned by me. You may be able to see a Tucker convertible in the background of one of the pictures. It was made after the company folded from remaining original Tucker parts. The '47 Cadillac is my all time favorite car, stately, it is a work of art and when I hit the lottery.........
1950 .. ish Ford Pennsylvania State Police car.
I think this is a 1957 Corvette with a 1949 Chevrolet Fire Chief car and 1952 Seagrave open cab pumper in the background. The guy standing by the Vette is Patsburg citizen Guy Kool.
NYC Fruehauf trailer which I picked up at York several years ago.

Don- that firehouse is great! JohnA (Niagara Falls FD)
Thanks, John. Two PV firehouses and a bandsaw make light work. The upper floors are from an HO Heljan brewery kit. The top two floor have full interiors, including two brass poles—old school…
Very cool John!

IT is hard to not be living with 20 years ago prices in my head. I'm not buying much these days.
I have a few vehicles on the layout, mostly on the freight side. But I need to get some people figures to put among them to liven things up a bit.

Me too Mark. I’m glad I bought all my stuff I wanted the past 5 years now I’m set when I retire and don’t have to buy little if anything.

Nice batch of autos and trucks Vern! My favorite is the Greyhound Scenicriuser! I’m looking for a Scenicruiser, but so far the ones I have found are over $100! I’m not a collector, so waiting until I see one for less than fifty bucks. The silver late 40’s pick ups are unique too!

Thank you, Scott. I bought the Scenicruiser from Corgi several years ago when they first came out. Had to have this particular livery with the gold striping, because I rode on one of these from San Francisco to San Luis Obispo and on another one from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City as a teenager way back in 1962. The Ford and Chevy pickups are from Lionel flatcar loads.
I liked your engineer figures on another thread so much that I searched for them and ordered the packet of them from Woodland Scenics on eBay. Thank you for that inspiration. 😉

Thanks so much Scott! I honestly don't remember exactly where I bought the milk crates. I think it was from Town and Country Hobbies in the Orange Hall at York. They always have the "little stuff" that can greatly enhance a scene. I think Town and Country Hobbies has a website. If not them perhaps I got them from Scenic Express? I wish I could be more accurate, however, I've bought and acquired so much little stuff that I just can't remember exactly where, what show, e bay purchase, or on line dealer I bought from.
Btw - The Fall and Spring seasons are my favorite times of the year. I love modeling Fall more so over Spring.
FYI - Diecast Direct has some new and recent 1/43 autos and light trucks at reasonable prices, some not so reasonable. Some neat stuff though.

It’s a 1/50 speccast White wc22 in the late 1940s to 1960 is when they stop making it. The trailer is a Lionel o27 Custom built by me I add some old Revell now Atlantis wheels to it.

Oh and how can I forget the new Peterbuilt in the background dropping some gators off at Menards Feed & Seed!

Some pics of them on the layout:
Siku street sweeper - made around 1990-1991
Corgi Classics “plain” Greyhound bus. Have wanted this for awhile and found it at a great price! Think it looks nice with the Amtrak billboard behind it, even if they’re 30+ years apart
Will hopefully get some pics of the rest, soon. Finally got a school bus(1/50 by Daron)

Heres 1b for nostalgia’s sake- Corgi Austin Mini Countryman Police van. Made between 1964-1969, looked up prototype info on its dimensions, it really is that small!
last But not least, finally got myself a school bus! Daron 1/50 scale

Randy thanks for the complement. I’m pretty sure you can no longer get these. You can try Dan’s Models from Romania. Just a warning the Resin is very bad after a couple years it started to warp especially the frame that why I rebuilt this one and repainted it. I also added Don Mills tires and wheels.

VW pickup truck ... about 12 or more years ago I bought several of these VW pickups at my grocery store in the toy section for $1.00 each! I always check out the toy section of that grocery store. No telling what will turn up. I've also bought 1:43 scale farm equipment( cultivator/ disc & hay wagon) for $1.00 each.

Thanks Mark and Lee! I think the VW pickup is a model of one of the early 1950's pickups. VW made their first pickup truck in 1950 so this one fits the era which I model ... transition era.
Patrick, any time I see one of those car displays in a supermarket or drug store I always check it out. Even though the majority is in the 1/32 range you never know what you may find.
That 7 Up Diamond T, and Romanian Mack are interesting. Wish manufacturers would mark boxes with the years vehicle was current! But that applies to RR rolling stock, for me, too.
Yes I agree with that too marking what year and make will help us.
Patrick I didn’t know that’s when VW came out with the Pickups thanks for the info.
Joe. Your right I check out the bargain bin at the Hobby Shop I go to in St Louis and found some great deals.

I agree, a lot are 1/32 and a lot are too modern for my '50s era layout, but I have found a number of neat cars in those end of aisles displays over the years.

Lee...one of the diecast sellers has a 3 set package of 60's vintage VW's...can't search it now, but if you or any others are interested, I'll find the link. I recall the price was reasonable...
Diecast Direct has a set of three VW “sambas”, which may be what Paul is thinking of: https://www.diecastdirect.com/...uct/18158/Volkswagen.
As a VW fan, I bought the set a while back but the buses are in different colors than these. Sorry, I can’t post photos at this time.
