Just got one of these today......what a monster!! I knew from reviews it was on the bigger side....but it is a big heavy brute!! Does anyone here have real world experience with the loco??? Mine has a little scrap of paper that says 'not recommended for any curve under 22" radius.'  I will try it on 18" as soon as possible but anyone run it on a regular basis??  Can't wait to see it pull a string of box cars!!

ALSO......Mine came with a bag of LED's.....are these extras or do they need to replace the lights in the loco now?? It has DCC but I run conventional.  Nothing in the instructions at all.....not even parts diagrams.

I have the green ET&WNC #12 from the first release. Has DCC but no sound. I will have to check the box to see what all extra parts and paperwork came with it. It is a large locomotive but the engine it is based on is good sized. I have not tried it on 18" curves so I do not know if it will make it or not

Brian, congratulations it's a real nice model and I'm sure you will enjoy it. I can say from experience that they will negotiate 18 inch curves with ease and will work on tighter if track work is good. I have a couple of these as well as the 4-4-0's. I even have these in my latest video on my YouTube channel link in my signature

I've run mine on Kato 16 7/8" radius unitrack curves and it was fine, so 18" radius is no problem at all.

these engines are monsters, however, and I think I'm going to put my 4-6-0 and Bachmann 2-8-0 on the market as they tower over all of the other rolling stock on the layout.

I operate one of these each time I run on a large local On30 layout, and it'll negotiate some REALLY tight curves. It's amazing how tight a curve it'll go through. That layout just had an op session today, and I think it went through a tight section of a wye that has to be well tighter than 10 inches. Wouldn't want to do it regularly.

I have three of them myself, only test ran when new, two with sound and one without, representing ET&WNC #s 9, 11 and 12 (the entire roster when Tweetsie ran in WW2 with the black paint scheme that Bachmann makes), for the layout I'm currently planning to build. The curves on my layout with be 24" minimum and those ten-wheelers look great like that.

I just ordered a pair of these after seeing one in person at a show. I got mine for what seems like an incredible value when you consider that they were well below the $200 mark and they have Tsunami sound decoders installed. These could be the absolute best value for an O scale steam engine on the market IMHO. I may even order a few more

I can't wait until mine arrive. I plan on creating a fantasy tourist excursion line. I was originally going to use standard gauge MTH 19th century 2-8-0's. When I saw this model up close and personal I felt that it had as good or better detail than the MTH model. The ability to use a min. radius of 18" vs. 31" and a nearly $500 price difference made this an easy choice. I've wanted an excuse to do some narrow gauge modeling for a while and now I have it

I think you will be happy with the detail and performance. These are a good deal. I have two of the MTH 19th Century 4-6-0 but they are really almost 1/32 scale....way to big!

But you will need more room to run these as they require 18 inch radius curves vs the 15.5 radius (O-31) the MTH uses.....but it works out about the same as the track width difference makes it very close.

I was actually comparing them to the 2-rail 2-8-0 which has a 31"r min. But the concept is the same. Equal or better detail with less space requirements for a lot less $. They seem like a great value.

I'm going with MMI locos and AMS & San Juan Car Co. cars on my 0n30 layout. All my couplers are at 0n3 height as a result - which several on30 folks tell me really looks good.

I modified a Bachmann reefer (easy) and two Bachmann hoppers (had to do a lot of grinding) to raise the couplers to 0n3 height.

I just saw a Bachmann 4-6-0 and like the loco.

How hard would it be to raise the tender's coupler to 0n3 height?

I bet the coupler on the loco pilot would be next to impossible...

TIA,

Thanks Scott,

I will never purchase another Tsunami again. They were great for their time, but the TCS WowSound is just better at everything.

In fact, if anyone wants to buy the Tsunami boards that I took out of these two, just let me know. I won't be needing them.
