At the top right side of your keyboard, just to the right of the "<--- BACKSPACE" button, is a button labeled "HOME."

Press that, and the screen will roll instantly to the top.  If you press the button just below that one, labeled "END" the screen will roll to the bottom.

These buttons can be used in any software you have open, such as this forum, or a document that you are writing or viewing, or a website that you are visiting.

Alternatively, at the extreme right edge of this and all the other pages, there is a thin column with a gray "elevator" in it that indicates where you are, relatively, on the page that's open. At the very top (and bottom) of the "elevator shaft" are very tiny arrows. If you place the mouse pointer on the little arrow at the top, and press & hold, the screen will roll to the top, and will roll to the bottom if you use the bottom arrow.

Here they are...

How's that for fast service?

Also, if you use the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys, they will move your screen up or down exactly one screen's worth of movement.

You can accomplish the same thing by clicking IN the gray bar at the right and not on the arrows as Art suggested. By clicking IN the gray bar either above or below the scroll bar, the page will move up or down a full screen. No need to click the arrow and hold it down. This works on EVERY Windows program, not just this forum.

I also could never understand why when you click on a post your not sent to the post so that you can read it. Instead your sent to the last comment and have to click or press a key to read the post. Could that be fixed Rich?

That's because you are clicking on a post in the right hand column, i.e. "Recent Posts". When doing that, you will ALWAYS be opening the most recent post to that thread.

<Control> + <Home> on Windows.  Tell Rich what would be even better would be a fixed button in the lower right hand corner that appears when you start scrolling down and remains there the entire time you scroll down the page.  (That kind of ui might not match this forum's styling though and someone is sure to complain about it on mobile display.)

In a word...No. This behavior is "baked into" the software. However, a quick click on the "Back to Top" link, or the <CNTRL+HOME> keystroke mentioned by A. Wells in the next quote would quickly  do the trick.

I agree that would be nice, but I don't have that degree of control over the way the forum is laid out and displayed. The Crowdstack folks would have to modify the basic forum code to do that.

Rich just surreptitiously slid that “back to the top” button in while we were conversing about it😂😂😂

LOL!

Hot Water, a POST is a titled subject, all the rest are REPLIES or COMMENTS to the POST. This post was in regards to being sent to the last reply rather then to the post or topic of the thread. Maybe since it can't be changed the title of the right hand column should be changed to Most Recent Reply. LOL

That, plus "subject" matter, i.e. the specific Forum Title that the reply/post is posted to, which we have been asking for, for at least 2 years now.

Then again, what part of the title "Recent Posts" is confusing to you?

OK, let's get our terms straight so we don't get confused...

  • A series of POSTS is called a THREAD.
  • The FIRST POST in a THREAD is referred to as the "OP" (Original Post or Original Poster)
  • Within a THREAD are numerous other POSTS.
  • A REPLY becomes a POST as soon as it is POSTED.
  • There is no difference between a "REPLY" and a "POST."

Here endeth the lesson.
