Just received this and I love it- a bit touchy on the smoke but otherwise great. My one issue is that the headlight on the non powered unit does not turn on in reverse. Any ideas on this or is this time to get a return slip and send it to Lionel. No tether obviously so something internal must sense the powered unit is reversing.....

It's not clear to me that the trailing non-powered unit will have a functional light. My LC+ Camelback has a very nice looking reverse light, but it's non-functional.
According to Train Room Gary's review of his FT it should come on. Unless his are different in some way.
Right and I mentioned to GRJ that I took off the cab and one of the light boards was in there. I pushed on the plug a bit to be sure it was seated. I wonder what makes it work?
It must receive the radio communications for when they're in reverse. As you say, no tether, so there's really no other logical way for it to operate.
Curious. Is there a power feed to the board? Can you shoot a photo.
I think it has track pickups. Since it's lighted in Larry's video, it obviously has power. He mentioned there was no tether, so that's the only place it could get power.
Here is the inside of the unit. You can see the light up front and the red connector on the right in the second picture is what it is connected to. Marker board lights are working but they are always on it appears.

The reason I asked is I didn't see that he m motioned there were receivers as well. That why I asked for a peak inside. I'd say it has all the needed parts. I'd start looking for loose connections etc. the. A possible trip back.
Thanks John and Marty, if I don't hear from someone about something I missed, I will start the return process on Tuesday.

Based on your fine review we established the light should work.
I wonder if the board in the trailing unit doesn't match the radio? It's possible they got mixed up in production and that board is listening for a different model's programming. Amazing that they put a complete board set in just to run the light.
