The fuel line material seems impervious to damage from oils or what not. And it seems to last a long long time. I have one loco that I think has that in for over 20 years and it still runs fine.
I can see that I have not yet recommended Toyota #O hose. They sell two lengths, and the longer one is cheaper! (?). Yeah, I use model airplane fuel line for some stuff, and no - it is not impervious. I replace it at 3 year intervals, because it stiffens. Toyota hose doesn’t do that.
Also worth noting - the longer the worm shaft, the less you need to worry about torque wrap-up. And you do know a can motor can be attached with aircraft safety wire? A piece of old inner tube can cushion it.
One more thing you might try for universals is from Nick at "hobby town of Boston". The universals are made in several sizes for different shaft diameters and easily adapted for length. The prices are quite reasonable.
