After a move and over a year without operating most of my trains, I am in the process of building a new layout. One of my big concerns is the long layoff period and the effect on the batteries in my PS-1 and PS-2 locomotives. I have tried one recharge which wasn't successful and I replaced the battery with a BCR.

With this long a period with no recharge, can some of these batteries be successfully recharged or do they all likely need to be replaced? If they can be recharged, what is the quickest/best way to do this? Are there good rechargers for the 8.4v battery?

I am just starting to learn about PS-3. If/when an upgrade kit is available for various locomotives, would this be a future solution to the battery recharge problem?

Thanks for any information.

Roger,
I got to tell ya, I have such good luck with my BCR's that I am not going back to batteries, rechargable or not. My 26E and other engines will sit in the dispay case for almost an entire year, I put the 263E on the tracks, turn
the transformer up to 16-18V for 20 seconds and the engine start right up and pulls 10 cars with her. I know Barry is not big on BCR's but man I love em.
Get rid of the batteries and go to BCR's
