I saw a thread a few days ago where several people mentioned that if you have solid benchwork and screw the track down into the plywood that it would reverberate like a drum and that a open grid or "cookie cutter" method is better than solid sheets.

That concept I understand, but my question is; lets say your benchwork is already done and you don't want to change it, if you simply cut a section out of the table top would it spoil the drum effect for the whole sheet or would it cancel it in only that specific area? I was thinking if you cut out for a pond or under a mountain or something like that.

I can't find the original thread so I am starting a new one.
