I am new here and I see there is a thread for videos.  Is it acceptable to post a video on independent threads like this  to show these boxcars?

Marx O-Gauge Train 8-Wheel #9100 Union Pacific Scale Tin Boxcar | eBay

This is an interesting boxcar. I like the looks of it and wonder if it could be bashed into something a bit more realistic from its current "very Marx" look. Is it a rare Marx item? Does anyone know the rough dimensions of it?

Note that the seller states that Marx equipment does not run well on Lionel track. Interesting, since on several of my old childhood layouts, I used both interchangeably, as the budget would allow.

The boxcar repurposed to serve as both boxcar and caboose, or a MOW car.

Yes Wood, it’s acceptable. Nice string of Santa Fe reefers there and it’s good to see your layout again.  I also noticed that you could do laundry as you run your trains. 😂 👍

@Arthur P. Bloom -  Arthur, the Marx UP #9100 box car is "scale" but unfortunately for most of us it is "S" scale and not "O" scale.  The Scale series of cars, which Marx began designing in the later pre-war period (as early as 1939) was supposed to have been offered in 1942 presumably with the die cast 999 engine.  The war of course precluded this although a few sets have surfaced primarily with the smaller retail accounts likely because of small supply.  The line came out much more numerously after the war and hit its peak about 1947 although various cars were available well into the 50's.  The "scale" passenger cars as opposed to the freight cars lasted much longer.  Note these cars were never "S" gauge, they always came with  "O" gauge trucks as Marx (unlike American Flyer) never altered their track.

As far as operating on Lionel track, I do it all the time and never have much trouble.  There has been identified some difficulty with locomotives going over switches, but I have never found that to be true either.

The Scale series cars are quite handsome and it has been noted in some reference material that S gauge operators (especially at the time) would switch trucks and couplers and operate them with their American Flyer outfits.

Hey Larry - that is one really cool Corvette Boxcar.  I really like it.  Here is my "white Corvette car".  Too big for the layout however.  Glad the LCCA activity went well.  North Carolina is even closer to me than Tenn, so I am looking forward to attending that convention.

Larry thanks for the compliment on my Vette. It’s going on 25 years old but is still fun to drive.  Love the Ford boxcar as well. Tom neat outside braced car the details on those make a super model.

I was visiting a hobby shop with one of my TCA friends last week and I picked up this really cool Warwick Railway modern boxcar, an MTH Premier model. I just read an article about the Warwick Railway (you can check it out for yourself if you're curious about tiny, obscure New England railroads) and it's really cool to have this piece of local history on my layout.

I'm mostly running New Haven on the layout right now, including this train of assorted 40-foot New Haven boxcars.

Well hello BxCrSun fans...my wife and I are on vacation in Savannah, Ga (actually Tybee Island) so I am separated from my layout and collection, so I am making do with some archive pictures.  As I might have said other places, if you have seen these before, I apologize.

First, since we are in or near Savannah Georgia, I had to include this one.  The Savannah State Docks Railway car from Lionel.

Next from the "scale" line of Marx S scale but O gauge that initiated just before the war shut down production and lasted into the 1950's, the UP "Challenger merchandise service" boxcar.

Finally as Marx moved back into full scale O and into plastic vice lithography, the UP "Road of the Streamliner's" deluxe box car from 1955.  (Note "deluxe" is a commonly used collector's term, not Marx's.  It denotes cars with extra detail features, in box cars it normally means sliding doors)

Well here is hoping you all have a great week.

This is a Weaver car I stripped and repainted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red #2. The decals are K4. There is a sister car in the works now…same railroad, different markings…
