Given the 2nd run of the Hiawatha, I'd like to gauge if there is enough common interest to have Scott possibly re-run the Budd Slumbercoaches.

B&O, CB&Q, NYC, MP, NP, AMTRAK we offered previously. I would be game for a few CB&Q, an Amtrak and an MP.

If you run MP consists, be aware a B&O Slumbercoach ran on the MP as a thru sleeper.

Just an fyi, start budgeting. The latest Amtrak Amfleet and Viewliners are reportely being priced around $300.00/ car due to Aluminum bodies and the ball bearing wheels.

Well, I have to budget to afford Scott’s offerings. I’ve decided they are quite nice - and much better than other offerings. If my memory is correct, there was some disappointment (Belly-aching) that the Amfleet was to be done in plastic. So Scott switched to aluminum and got a boost in reservations. Yep. They are more expensive. Be careful what you wish for !!!

The reason these are hard to find is because there weren't a lot made and should a second run happen, I suspect there won't be a lot of those made either.  Inventory is not a good thing when you see the size of Scott's "warehouse"

I’m guessing this would qualify as one of those “short runs”.  I view this as an opportunity for Scott to tack a 2nd Run of Slumbercoach onto another larger run of passenger sets to reach a more “commercially viable” total run number.  Got to get it offered up with a plan where it could fit into a production run.  Be nice to see some movement on this as the reservation window thru to delivery can be brutally slow.

Scott never seems to have many “leftovers” from any of his runs. With that in mind, I bet his “warehouse” is not much larger than a good sized walk in closet. 🤣🤣🤣

I’m surprised no one has posted an example so I add one. These are really nice models. Email Scott and ask him to do run #2 if you want to see these again. It won’t happen if you don’t speak up !!!  I’ll be in for a CB&Q for my third.

MP not in some sort of blue?  Were they leased from Budd or another railroad?

And the MP/B&O run through sleepers ran later than most.

All the Budd Slumbercoachs were stainless steel.  The MP only owned one.

Those were the only roads that owned Slumbercoaches.  The NYC's were rebuilds of roomette sleepers and were labeled "Sleepercoaches" due to the NYC ceasing Pullman staffed cars.

Scott and I discussed the Budd Slumbercoach yesterday. Here is what I suggest; if you are committed to purchasing one or more e-mail / call Scott and tell him so (e-mail is much better).  My opinion is that they would be done with the B&O Capitol Limited since that will have the Budd dome car and the Budd 16 and 4 sleepers. It is important to do the Budd car extrusions at the same time. Plus it would help accelerate the Capitol Limited in the list of projects.

Trust me, this is imperative for you to do if you want to see the Budd Slumbercoach made again.

Thanks, just emailed him.

This Slumbercoach request/re- run petition thread has been Absolutely fascinating to follow. It Began in the Milwaukee Road run#2 thread. I added my comment that it won’t get any traction there as Those interested in Slumbercoach run 2 won’t ever see that. I said needs own thread. The new thread was started ONLY one week ago and built some considerable momentum. WOW !!! One week after the thread started, Scott responds to our voices !!!!!!  Slumbercoaches now up for reservations - and an expanded choice list.
AWSOME !!!!

Lets hope adding Run to B&O offering helps bring both projects to fruition in a more expeditious fashion.  Be happy for a second chance

OK !!! So now everyone knows the old expression —— “talks cheap”........ let’s place those reservations And ensure this project doesn’t stall !!!!!

I appreciate your suggestion in the MR thread to add a unique one to the Slumbercoach. I greatly appreciate Scott giving the project another run for those of us that have missed out.

You said it best, talk is cheap. I order my first 5 (2 BN, 2 CB&Q and 1 MP). Likely will add more once I hear from Scott. Stoked for this project!

OK, I have the Slumber Coaches Up on the GGD web site. Since we have to re-tool this car and we only expect 100 - 150 reservations, they cost a little more. The tools were lost right after the first run when the factory changed hands and destroyed all our Aluminum car tools. But that's another story.

Thanks for listening Scott. My orders are in.

Thanks for being the first to “pipe up” to trigger this 2nd run of Slumbercoaches. Sometimes our “one off” wishes come true. This one caught A LOT of people’s attention - it caught fire. So Cool !!!!!!

Just talked to Scott and requested that Amtrak Phase III be added to the order form.  He already got permission from Amtrak to do so.  I'll be ordering at least one now.

I swore phase III was on there yesterday when I ordered a penn central and an Amtrak, but the link they pops up with your name and what I ordered only had a red 1 next to penn central

There aren't enough orders on the Slumbercoach to move it forward yet.  It will happen eventually.  I have my Phase III Amtrak on on order.  I need to get Scott a good photo as he is showing the first run in Phase I which I already have.

He needs pix for Penn Cent and Burl Northern too !!! 😑
If you only give quick look at pix, you don’t see those mentioned !!! 😳

I have the Amtrak Phase I version from the first run.

I would be interested in a Phase III version in a second run if offered.  I am looking to start my heritage fleet trains, especially with Amfleet cars finally in design and E60's in pre-order stage.

Perhaps phase I and III versions are possible this time because of the uptick interest in Amtrak passenger cars.

Got 100 reservations, so this is a good add on to the next, new car production. Probably late this year.

It would be nice if the B&O reservations could be split into two pieces. One for Named cars that ran on the Capital Ltd (which you are offering) and a second that ran on the National Ltd that transferred cars to and ran on the MP EAGLE (which you are also offering). Having people be aware of this split should bring in some more B&O reservations. 😬🙂😜. IMHO of course.
Cheers !!! 😃

B6015042-4DA4-4E20-9F41-EFA998B60E2DFellow “Amtrakers”. Be sure to consider reserving the GGD Amtrak Slumbercoach if you don’t have one from run 1. That was a phase I paint - the current offering is to be Phase III.  Actually,  email Scott and ask him to offer both Phase I and III - then back with reservations. If more of you make reservations, it’ll be a good boost for the run and maybe we can get it sooner than later.
Cheers

Any word if this second run of Slumbercoaches will come before or after Superliner 1's?

Perhapse mixed in with Amfleet1/viewliner second run?

I See/hear nothing about the Slumbercoaches. They seem kind of orphaned. Maybe the “numbers” needed to do are still lacking.  My non-business experience might imagine these should be tacked onto the next aluminum car manufacturing run - perhaps the “Olympian?”  What says Scott ?

Orders are a little thin at this time.  Please order some more.

GGD might snag some more reservations if you can put up pictures of Penn Central and Burlington Northern - and Amtrak - plus Offer phase 1 and 3. Pictures Will grab attention !!! The tiny words are difficult to see if a potential buyer is giving a Quick Glance. I think it’s worth the effort. Nothing to lose and something to gain.    IMO of course.

Ok folks. Let’s see if I can stir the pot a bit on this offering. Anyone else besides me want to see this offering Sooner then
later ?????  Join me and email Scott - let’s see if we can get this moving by tacking it onto another offering that’s also short of reservations. And Let’s see if we can get Amtrak phase 1 AND 3 offered. A few more reservations always helps.  😜

Yes - but No pix for Penn Cent or BN. 🫢☹️😵‍💫😳

Great news, the factory needs to do the Slumber Coaches NOW. We will be closing reservations July 10th and they should be done and here by September, 2023.

I'm sorry, we don't have time to change any of liveries. They will be the same roads and car numbers as before.

Regards,

Scott Mann

This is wonderful news! Have been able to find some of these cars in the last couple of years. They are unique and hard to find, if you are on the fence, grab your favorite road number NOW!

BUDD SLUMBER COACH AMTRAK PH III

BUDD SLUMBER COACH BN
BUDD SLUMBER COACH CB&Q
BUDD SLUMBER COACH MOPAC

Here is the full list according to GGD's site. Most of my reservations center around CBQ and BN.

A pic of the PC version seems to be pretty scarce. I sure can’t find one. Perhaps they were around only Very Briefly ???? 🤔🤔

PRR did not have Slumbercoaches, just the NYC.  Some of the NYC ones were rebuilt by the NYC from 22 roomette sleepers with 10 duplex and 16 single rooms.  These were referred to as "Sleepercoaches".  Most went to the PC while some ended up elsewhere prior to Amtrak.  They were Harbor series cars on the NYC, but were numbered in the 4200 series for PC.  NYC also sold several of their cars to NP in the mid 1960's so these didn't make it into PC.

I will need to do some homework on that one.  PRR did not have Slumbercoaches, just the NYC.  They all went into service for PC, but the question is how many, if any got re-lettered or stenciled for PC prior to Amtrak.  It would have been a 4 year window, so it is likely some did.  Also, not all of NYC's Slumbercoaches were "true" Slumbercoaches.  Some were done with a Pullman Standard plan type and were two berths short of the standard Budd offering.

Great questions!

I Thought I found several PC Slumbercoach pix but upon looking more closely, they were 14-10s converted from 22 Roomettes. 😤
Interesting but not Slumbercoach.

Wow! Interesting, that would explain why we can’t find photos of a PC slumbercoach. So the question is will the PC be cancelled or done based on the sleepercoach lettering & numbering?

@sdmann

Are these aluminum cars painted silver or plated in nickel (or chrome) ?

What is the length of these cars ?

Will the window glazing be clear or blue-green tinted ?

Will the cars include passenger figures already installed ?

Will the CB&Q cars include:

4900 Silver Siesta

4901 Silver Slumber

4902 Silver Rest

4903 Silver Repose

?

The GGD sample photo of the CB&Q slumber coach looks good except for the following.

The PULLMAN sign by the vestibule should be in the same Zephyr-Gothic font as the Burlington letter-board & the Silver-Name board.

Thanks in advance !!!

PC ran car numbers 4202, 4200, 4204, 4205, 4206, 4207, 4208. Cars were part of the merger with NYC.
For BN, they ran cars under these names: Loch Tay, Loch Rannoch, Loch Arkaig, Loch Awe, Loch Sloy, Loch Leven, Lock Lomond, Loch Katrine, Silver Repose, Silver Rest, Silver Siesta, Loch Long, Loch Lochy.

The PC car numbers you mentioned are sleeper coaches based on a 22 roomette car, not slumbercoaches. See Jonathan’s post above.

These are a different floor plan than what Scott is doing. Scott is doing a 24-8 slumber coach.
