From Leonard Maltin's site. Photo taken by "The Pathmark Man," a character actor who recently died; also a chum of Keaton's.
(H/T E. O. Costello for the headsup.)

I could've lived without ever seeing that.

Me too, Brendan.
Whew... need to bleach my eyes out now.

Yea Mitch- a little warning about the adult content next time. I'm never gonna un-see that now.
Have seen this photo many times before but never even thought about a reaction like those above...just a man with his trains.
traindavid posted:I'm confused, who's the guy in the picture? What's the "back-story" to this picture?
Buster Keaton? Famous silent movie comedian, active up until his passing in the mid 1960s.

Mr. Mitch,
Please don't be giving Lionel any input for another one of their "once every decade or so", far fetched, off-beat, additional product ideas, such as blue & orange spandex thong beachwear for aging model railroaders!
I wondered if that was BK, but it doesn't look like him compared to the movies! So what's the story behind the picture, his train layout or???
I like the second train pictures better...wonder what loco that is, on what railroad?... doesn't look like a movie prop creation..
"The General" was shot on the Oregon Pacific & Eastern. (Yep, the Shack's road...) The General was played by OP&E #4, the Texas by a locomotive from a nearby logging railroad and OP&E #5 portrayed the USMRR locomotive .

Watch the movie "The General" if you haven't already -- or again if you have. Classic, timeless, brave, and unique stunt work by the great BK. A simple YouTube search of "the general buster keaton" will turn up results from which you can watch the entire film or some of the most famous segments. I just watched the 4 minute snippet of him clearing the tracks -- still delightful and amazing.
Oh, where's the S connection -- wish the AF 4-4-0 had been scale -- like you haven't heard that before.
I remember seeing this photo a while ago, probably in Classic toy Trains. If I remember correctly, Buster was a Gilbert fan and had an outdoor layout at his home in California. The photo was taken when he was more advanced in years than his silent (skinny) movie days. He died in 1966 at the age of 71 of lung cancer. Give the guy a break!
YouTube, Buster Keaton "The Railrodder".
Jerry, no disrespect of BK meant, I just never saw him looking like that. And thank you for the "back story" of the train layout and likely reason for the picture.
David,
I know you meant no disrespect to BK. He's been in entertainment since he was 7 years old on the vaudeville stage with his parents. He was in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World with some of Hollywood's funniest comedians and comedic actors in 1963. His last film was A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He also did most of, if not all, of his own stunts, even up to his last film. One of my favorite roles he had was on a 1961 episode of The Twilight Zone when he was 66.
One of the early pioneers in film. And a Flyer fan to boot!
I have been puzzling over the title of this thread. What is "Avec"?
"Avec" is French for with.

I talks snooty sometimes, I does.
And thanks, all, for all the great pics and links!
