Nick I'd consider that a score for sure just for the engine.

OK, I really do love trains ... really ... I've just been buying lots of scale vehicles lately for use with my trains.  At the top of my list are food-related trucks for my Arttista diner car chef figure (Chef Chuck Wagon) to interact with in some yet to be determined humorous fashion.

Last week's "must have" was a Road Champs "Good Humor" (get it?) truck with accessories:

What amazing detail!  There are three doors that open revealing chrome-lined freezers.  It's got great dashboard detail, fine graphics, a nice dog who really shouldn't eat chocolate, and some boxes for train operations or team track fun: 

For these photos, I've added the Arttista ice cream truck driver shown in a prior post.  With the open cab, he desperately needs a pair of legs, so someday I'll have to see what my crafting skills amount to.  The slovenly Arttista cab driver smoking a cigar figure also works well but in a less sanitary way .  He too would need some legs.

Decades ago, before the Disney/Pixar Cars franchise, I drew pun-filled CARtoon spoofs using vehicles with faces.  I am pondering enhancing my diner chef comedic story-telling by placing my old CARtoon character in my fictional railroad town, Tomlinson Run.  Conceptually it's like Roger Rabbit's Toontown but with trains.

When you have limited space, time, and modeling skills, you kind of have to go with comedy.  That's the story behind why I also picked up this 1:43 Mattel die-cast from Cars 3.  I wanted to check out the quality after watching a mixed review on Youtube.  Happily, the quality of this model is top-notch!  It's super hefty, too:

It looks fantastic next to my Atlas RS-1 in Pennsy livery.  I liked it so much that I've ordered a set of the other characters in 1:43 for random but whimsical placement on my layout.   Stay tooned.

LOL!  Thanks for the compliment, Jim!  Interestingly, just after posting my photos, I looked up the plot summary for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and read that the story incorporated the actual closing of the Pacific Electric Railway and also had a train scene.  Those were two interesting features that I'd long forgotten.  The wheels are turning already!  :-).

I have been looking for over a year for a mate to my A unit K Line SP Daylight Alco.  Found it on ebay last week and paid a hefty amount to win the auction.  It came in the mail today and thr two As make a beautiful pair.  I went ahead and purchased Daylight passenger cars to be pulled by the engines.  They should be arriving soon.   Will the spending never end?

Yet another K-line Plymouth to add to the collection (#4). I love the detail on these little guys. Each is very unique and colorful. This one is Strasburg RR # 1.

Bob, It looks great!  I was looking at a K-Line Plymouth with 4 ore cars set at the last Greenberg show.  The asking price was $100, but I had already spent my allotted money for the day on a book.  I may get one someday.

Thanks Mark. They are very well made, all die cast and heavy. I've pulled several MPC and post war cars with one and it didn't even struggle.

on the track, applied power and it moved. It is ALIVE, Igor. I think I got a great deal for $125.

Tried to make a video of the LMS loco last night. After applying magic juice

to several areas it ran like it was new, forward and reverse. Hooked up several

Hornby pullman cars I recently acquired and ran it. Disaster on my little layout.

Cars derailed and wiped out part of a subdivision, lots of trees and several head

of (wooden) livestock. Stay tuned, will try again tonight.

Just picked up these two Atlas SD40’s. These are more modern than I usually buy but they're prototypical for the end of the PRR so it meets my criteria. I also bought these three PRR books.

Be careful as I have the Virginian and the 1601 and during the move from my home to the NJHR, my fault as I did not re insert the pyramids figuring I wouldn't need them going 10 miles, I did, broke small piece off the cab - JB Weld to fix

I love these two engines

With my new layout progressing I thought I'd treat myself a bit.  So today I picked up my first brand new engine, an MTH premier Alco S-2 switcher (PS3.0) - Chessie (20-20896).  This was released in July and it's a beaut.  I'm still stuck in conventional until I get the layout done and DCS/Legacy added but in conventional she crawls great even around some tough corners that slow down my "conventional" engines.  Pics attached.

Very sharp looking diesel, Kirk!!  I saw lots of Chessie engines in my late teen-early 20s years on the old B&O where I grew up.

Hi everyone, I didn't buy it bit I did trade some dirt work with my small tractor for a Shopsmith MARK V model 510, I think it should help out with the layout build!

Finally on the layout, the Allegheny is at home, at least for awhile.  

I have not received it yet but the Sunset 3rd Rail Freedom Train #610 is on its way!  As with all of my purchases it will be my favorite for a while until replaced by another, newer purchase. 

Interestingly, I was going thru my collection of railroad related videos last night and stumbled on extensive footage of another Sunset product I have on order.  In the Heron Rail Video, Pocahontas Glory volume 4 there is some great footage of the Virginian EL-2B electric engine.  They were enormous and I am sure the play value will be in direct ratio of the size of this engine to the others in my collection!

Those gave me a bit of a chubby, considering they are arguably right up there with the GG1 in good looks. 

What with the dollar difference, lack of funds and needing another road to model like a hole in the head help keep a lid on the addiction.  Why does Sunset always torment me so?
