Buy anything cool lately?

Indeed. My "new" American Flyer #300 arrived today:

Dunno exactly what year this was made; guessing late '40's(?)

This is my first "300"; I took it apart, cleaned everything and installed a new set of brushes. Took a screwdriver, 1/4" wrench and about 45 minutes. 

Runs beautifully; smooth (takes very little voltage, as it has no smoke unit) and very quiet (no "choo choo" effect). These old things never cease to impress me.

Lionel Ready To Play track, to expand the Polar Express set my daughter just bought her daughter at Costco.

My son-in-law and granddaughter have been having a blast playing with this train set, trying out different floor layouts. This, in turn, has rekindled the flame I carry for trains, and has me looking for ways to take what I'd kept of the old O Gauge out of the storage bins. So, yeah, in terms of coolness this is way up there for my involvement in the hobby.

I picked up my 2nd Atlas O Trainman 60' baggage car lettered for the Santa Fe. I needed another car for my Fast Mail Express. The train now has a Santa Fe express boxcar, two REA refrigerator cars, two Santa Fe baggage cars, a Santa Fe RPO, and a Santa Fe combine car.

Take note which side is female and which side is male on the track pins. Other mfgs use a nearly identical track, but the pins are reversed. I used to pick whole sets up for $10-15 at yardsales all the time and found out the hard way they differed "slightly". (I just made mounting plates for under the ties and cut off the pins and receptacle, aligning the rails for transistion between the two track types.  I actually like the Nu-brite trains a little better. (lionel scientific is bigger and sits a tad higher too; but they work together ok. I also used them with electrified Lionel G , though a coupler swap was needed )

Why are these toys cool? I left mine outside in Michigan, snow, ice,& sun for years and they still work .....after you dump the water out of the battery compartment    I'd also get a few years out of the batteries; also left outside. Track (and trains somewhat) do get brittle in the sun, but it took about 5 years.

Adriatic, thanks for the tips! They've got an under-used deck and rockery garden that could easily accommodate setting this up outdoors. I'll let them know that's a viable option.

One more then; they stay railed much better as 0-6-2 than 2-6-2. Especially on uneven track. So, if they "give you lip" pull the pilot truck and try again.

Purchased this shell and frame from Kansas Pete.
Both pieces are in very good condition except for the paint.
Pete thought it was a 150 and once I received it I measured it and it is longer than the 150’s.

Removed some of the paint where the labels usually are and it turns out to be a 152.

I do not have any 152’s just enough parts to have some fun with this and get it running.
Plus I think I have a #4 motor for it

I had the chance to bid and win the auction Hot Water had for his train collection.   Sorry to see Hot Water getting out of the hobby as he had really nice motive power and rolling stock which was all weathered.

Arriving Tuesday will be my new 3rdrail J3a super hudson with a selkirk front end.  Weathered and converted to kadee by Hot Water.

Congratulations Gary!!!!  I saw that auction, and you definitely got some great items!!!! 

I bought this Marx talking Glendale station for my dad for Christmas.  The record is reasonably audible. He's starting a new "toy train" layout on an old ping pong table.

Went to my local ACE Hardware store and brought these back to the train room.

Nice car and shirt, Paul.  I could count the number of times I watched WKRP on one hand, but I saw that episode!  LOL

I watched that episode and laughed until my sides hurt.Which is very hard to do when your a kid.The part that had me rolling on the bed was"OH MY GOD THERE THERE COUNTER ATTACKING!!!!"

I treated myself to this Lionel 6-11818 set from 1994. It was listed as used but was new in the box.

Got a 2322, this Pennsylvania railroad item, and a couple light bulbs for my 2340 at the Toy and Train show in Kirtland, Ohio. (Now keeping my eyes out for a 2331 to complete the postwar FM collection.)

Was that his stuff in the Stout Auction? I wanted those extra daylight cars but wasn’t willing to pay what they went for

Yes, there were like six engine I would of bib on if I had the money 

Santa Fe diner, polished aluminum, "won" on the bay--I was the only bidder and the diner was listed as having a "wrong box."  It's for a paint project, so who cares about the box?

There are actually two of them (94924, 94925) - I only posted a pic of one. I picked them up from Grzyboski’s a couple of weeks ago, but they are no longer on his website. Nicholas Smith (my second favorite place to give money) still shows them as available.

P.S. Since there is a Paul, and you’re Paul 2, does that make me Paul 3???

A old David O King Toonerville Trolley almost LN and runs great. I ordered one from a Train tore in Long Island, NY about 1980 and they never shipped. I did get my money back finally after filing a complaint with the Post Office and finally got this one about 38 years later lol.

Got both of these yesterday at the Great Midwest Train Show in Wheaton, IL. A Weaver 40' Santa Fe express boxcar for my Fast Mail Express and a Lionel NYC GP9 B unit. The GP9 B unit will be painted in ATSF zebra stripes in the next few months to give me an ABA set of Geeps.

It's finally here! I bought this on eBay for a great deal last Monday and it finally arrived! Seller broke off one of the steps and the front orange cable broke off during shipping, both were fixed without too many swear words and with a bit of glue. Of course the engine works perfectly on my home layout. But I will have to take it to my local club to give it a proper shakedown, hopefully this weekend!

My DCS system arrived this afternoon. I wired it in and it works great in both DCS and conventional mode. I can't believe I didn't buy a command control system earlier. It's great fun. I'll have to pick up a CAB2 remote/base combo soon as well. 

Maybe, just got in a structure kit that was misidentified.  Seller offered partial refund back to pay vehicle,  and his site says no returns.  Awaiting resolution.  Guess l can bash it into something.

Great Buy Lou, Let me know how it goes, I have one but haven't really used it yet as I am still build the layout!
