I finally picked up some "capstone" or "mobiles" Phase V Amfleet cars. These are the MTH version, not Atlas. The two-car set is pretty cool because it offers the only O scale Amtrak business car I'm aware of besides my Acela. I haven't altered it yet although I do plan to customize the interior. If you are looking to grab a set to combine with some others, remember that these cars are chrome!

I bought more project fodder. I got all this from the Cabin Fever MTH warehouse auction that ended NYE. Stuff showed up today. Everything together was about $300, so pretty cheap.

Chicago & Northwestern E4 Hudson. Missing the pilot truck but otherwise cosmetically mint. Has most of its wiring harness except for the chassis to boiler shell harness. I should be able to assemble that from my parts bins as well as the pilot truck. No boards but I can scrounge those up. Has a 9434 Pittman and all its driveline though. All in all a steal. I have no other CNW stuff (everything else is ATSF, SP, & UP, in order from greatest to least) but it looked neat and I won it on an I don't care lowball bid.

Santa Fe 5011 class Texas. Wire harness intact. Most missing trim in the box. The stuff that isn't I have in my parts bins. Needs a worm, motor mount, flywheel, and motor, but I have those as well. Needs a board and paint. Another steal and easy project.

GS4 boiler/tender shells. I have the chassis/driveline/motor/wire harness for this. Need boards. Plan is to do a deskirted half Daylight with this.

I wasn't planning on buying any more locomotives but I can’t resist buying broken/incomplete stuff to rebuild. I'll stop until I find some other broken thing to put back together. I swear 😄.

A year or so ago I pre ordered the MTH 'Bush UP Funeral' baggage car.  Was short when it arrived and had to let it go. A few weeks ago I spotted a MTH UP baggage car in the FS Forum and was able to acquire it.  When it arrived, I assumed that it was the standard issue from awhile back but to my surprise it was the casket car. God is good...

Geeee wonder who sold you that

I have the Southern car, I believe it is referred to as the wave car.  This car has been on my tracks for years, and has been one of my favorites.  I can't say that for a lot of my rolling stock.  GregM mentioned the other cars in this series, all Pennsy cars.  Other than both being boxcars, I am not entirely sure I see the comparison to the iconic 6464 series.  The 6464 cars are great cars, yes and I collected many of the series of cars but have subsequently sold all of mine.  The only knock the 6565 is lack of detail but I attribute that more to the era they were made.  I don't think any of the manufacturers had the details in the cars that they now do.

I hope that is helpful.

John

Lionel includes this in the description of the 6-39240 Pennsylvania 6565 boxcar I listed previously.

These cars feature the legendary look of the 6464 boxcars with the added heft of a die-cast metal frame.”

Sounds like an upgrade to me. 😊

SANTA FE LOTS ORE CARS

I'm the proud owner of a dual set of 2 Santa Fe L.O.T.S. ore cars, as one set didn't seem enough.  Should look good on my L.O.T.S. train of the warbonnet beauties.

I also scored the new METRA SW-1 switcher.  Probably got the last one available from any dealer in the U.S. (from Sidetrack Hobbies) as I waited waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long to decide to purchase.  I've done that too many times!

Saw this thread in my email and wanted to share

When it comes to 9464 cars, I used to look for them all the time. Some have diecast frames and others have plastic. I’d have to do a little investigation to produce some model numbers, but I remember several of the available road names. You already mentioned the Southern Wave car. I have these 9464 boxcars

Central of Georgia (brown & silver)

Western Pacific (brown w/ orange feather)

Atlantic Coast Line (light gray w/ red letters and trucks)

Santa Fe (red and weathered, 4 in the War Horse Set)

Also there was a B&M, Penn Central, Port Huron&Detroit, Delaware&Hudson, Northern Pacific, Reading, B&O, C&O, Milwaukee Road, MKT, NYC, and CP Rail.

I went to the Puyallup model train show this morning. I saw a LOT of On30 stuff but in the end, this is all I bought, for just ten bucks...

Nice find Lee, I didn't find out about the show till Thursday. If I would have known they were having it this year I would have save up some money and went!

It started at 8am, something I've never seen before. I got there just after 8 and there was hardly anyone there. A pal of mine was there after 10 and he said the place was packed.

Purchased a LIONEL TCA duplex as a donor for another NP North Coast Limited car for the new NP NCL train I'm painting.  It mimics the prototype 8-6-4 and 8-6-3-1 sleepers' offset windows used on the NP NCL.

What started out as a paint project of 4 dome cars to add to the NP NCL train I painted 25+ years ago has morphed into painting an entirely new train after I sold the original train to a fellow club member.  The new train will have the four domes plus water-baggage, mail-dormitory, diner, Lewis and Clark Traveler's Rest lounge, and observation cars which are in process at this time.

Great finds folks, I just received my NYC bay window caboose, on one end the light flashes, the other it’s apparently there for looks. Happy Railroading Everyone0435F255-59D5-4C0A-A328-ED06B9936E86

Love that caboose, Larry. I picked one up a couple of weeks ago and Lionel did a great job with them. Personally, I’m glad they lost the smoke units on cabeese... I don’t use smoke to begin with, and the large smoke stacks they needed looked silly.

Picked up a K-Line Kruisers VW minibus with caravan, found it on Craigslist.

Keep those trains running.

Nice find Jeffery, 21 window micro bus and the caravan to scale! I've been looking for a 21 window for awhile, but they all seem to be in 1/53 or 1/64 scale! Too big and too small. :-( Back in the mid 70's I had a real 1965 Type 2 21-Window Samba Bus, and it was green and white, slammed, with a 2.1 liter VW engine that I built for it. I had photos of it, but I cannot find them. If anybody sees one in 1/48th scale, any color, let me know. :-) I can always paint it.

I finally got my hands on the latest version...

Not bad - decorationwise - for the price point! The sideframes model the later Hyatt Roller Bearing  caps as opposed to the earlier boxy end caps that one sees on a scale F unit and GP Blomberg trucks .

If Anything, Menards just needs to replace the nylon gears with metal ones in their power trucks.

Got some goodies in the mail over the last couple of days...

First up, a pair of MTH Metro North Fish Belly hoppers - a custom run from Nassau Hobby. I remember seeing these on sidings along the Harlem Line when I was commuting into NYC. Love the deep blue color:

And two boxcars I picked up from Mr. Muffins. Really like the Hiawatha inspired car:

Markets are going nuts today (once again) and  work is crazy, so what's the perfect antidote?  I put in an order for these - https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/...ecial-announcement-5

Roundhouse south and MTH made a reefer I couldn't refuse. Can't wait to get them in May.

Gorgeous reefer shown in the link you provided, Strap Hanger.  I'm very tempted.  And what interesting information in the ad copy about the end of billboard box car advertising along with significant dates.  I often wondered how prototypical some of the cars we can buy now were (especially the beer and other food ones).  Now I know ...  that MTH car sure would look great on my kitchen wall :-}.
