For just $120, from my local historical society's pop-up sale the other day, I snagged a K Line FA A-B-A set plus some new cars. The second A unit and B Unit are both dummies, and the B unit is later manufacture than the A so I can't use the tether, but it does have a horn! I also got a Wabash TOFC and Boxcar to continue building my "NKP-N&W-Wabash Merger" train. I'm a New York Central molder now, I guess . I went and renamed my layout, actually, to "Cleveland Short Line Ry." from "Cleveland & Western RR", as I discovered that the real Cleveland Short Line was a NYC leasee and had NKP trackage rights. I also bought a NYC work caboose to match my New York Central docksiders, but it needs some work as it has some damage I didn't notice when I bought it (I did see the little peg for the searchlight had broken and needed to be drilled out and replaced, but missed that the one side had a part that was snapped off. Fortunately it's still with the car so I just need to glue it back in place, and fix aforementioned peg and I should be good to go.).

I'm very happy with my new purchases! The prices at the sale were very good, I'd be surprised if anything was left by the end of the day.

I also got a Lockheed Electra in Northwest Airlines colors from the local Savers the week before. It's a great, simple little model which cost me all of 75 cents!

I am going to claim that it was a boxcab electric prototype that sat on J. L. Cowen's desk for many years.

But in reality I am sure it was handmade from a NYC 2344.  It's very heavy and has the horizontal engine (growler) and the front ends from the A unit (coil coupler and deflector).  The lights, pantograph and other hardware source is unknown.  The portholes have been filled in.  It is very well machined, engineered and built.  The magnitraction is not real strong but the rollers are not worn very much.  I'll probably try to add an electronic e unit if there's enough room.

I've seen some of this man creations at the bandit shows in the past but chose not to afford them.  They were all very unique, and  well made.

Not sure if this qualifies as 'cool' but I have two garage sale 6819 helicopter flat cars with no copters and found a package of 2 Lionel copters, new in the blister pack for a really inexpensive price,  on epay of all places.  Even with shipping I consider it a steal.  No more load less 6819's after a couple decades.  Wonder what happened to the original copters?

The slow boat from China arrived today to my surprise with components from four different vendors: caps, heat shrink tubing, JST XH connectors, and 3 and 5 mm LEDs.

The tracking info provided by AliExpress seems to be meaningless and best ignored.

The caps were particularly welcome as I finished up 15 regulators.

I found a second set of the needle in a haystack/hen's teeth Weaver G1611-L  Second Run Erie Lackawanna Add-On Coach/Sleeper Passenger Car Set with grey trucks and green window tints.  I was fortunate to find another set this past January on eBay with a heads up from my friend and fellow forum member LarryW.  I plan to run one very long consist combined with 3 matching 5 car sets (minus the observation and baggage cars on 2 sets) pulled by my both powered set of the last MTH run of Premier E-8's in Erie Lackawanna(820 & 822).  I plan to install LED lights in all these cars before I do that.

. The antenna needs some TLC but otherwise it’s great. Actually my first proto3. I wasn’t going there when they came out but here I am. 4B1B673B-D2CC-4878-8BE8-78B1344CA6FF

They are nice locomotives Bob.

I had the opportunity to repair the antenna on a couple of these for my dealer.    The antennas are very fragile but the way they are done  really adds to the model.

Hope you can get yours sorted out.

Placing these here since this year's York thread is more of a 'how was it' and not so much 'what was your haul?'

I didn't know I was going until the week before the show. As mentioned before, the charter bus sponsored by the RR Museum of New England Long Island had to cancel this round due to a combination of the only "affordable" bus company had canceled its interstate insurance during the pandemic, and was having a lot of trouble getting another policy, with the others being either too costly, unable to accommodate a trip on the 29th, or did not have insurance for out-of-state runs.

Fortunately a friend who I used to go with years ago had an open slot and I was able to join the road trip. So, on with the stuff. (Descriptions are above their respective photos):

First off was this MTH Premier Santa Fe coach. Now, I already have a 9-car ATSF passenger train with plated finish from the last official offering, to go with my 2900-series 4-8-4 I got a couple of years prior. I also had a few older-style unboxed ATSF coaches plus a baggage car that were to join a Metra amfleet cafe and a few assorted unboxed baggage cars to be repainted into an Amtrak Exhibit Train...as soon as I can contact a custom painter. This car came from Uncle Jack's Trains (formerly RPO Trains) in Orange Hall. There were two coaches when I first looked and while I intended to buy both, I didn't spring for them right away, and...well, the First Rule of York kicked in, and when I came back later that day, there was only one. This car has a few scuff marks, a broken pickup roller wire, and a dislodged window glass. All fixable, and less than half of what a similar car went for on Cabin Fever the week prior after my $75 max bid was leapfrogged to $110.

(edit: for future reference, this car is from a break-up of 5-car set 20-65079, 2005 V2.)

Next up is this MTH ETCX (Eastman Chemical) 20K gallon four-compartment tank car. My first one of this particular type, I got it from Chuck's Train Room, also in Orange Hall. Funnily enough, the day after returning home from York, I spotted its prototype in a video by Wide World of Trains.(right around 17:22 into the video) Same reporting marks (different number) and all.

Next up is this K-Line Burlington Northern coil car found at Just Trains (also in...Orange Hall)

And last but not least, this 1970's era Atlas 40' boxcar, found in Blue Hall during a return trip where the First Rule of York kicked in again

atlas 6201 great northern 40' boxcar

...I returned to this hall Saturday to locate a MNP motorized track-cleaning car built into a RailKing CSX hi-cube boxcar. It was listed at $100 and I should have jumped on it right then, as a new one goes for well over $200. Of course, it was nowhere to be seen. The above-pictured car will go along with the nine other plastic-wheeler Atlas cars i got in an earlier Cabin Fever auction.

Other non-train items included a set of angled tweezers from B&B Hobby, and a pair of MTH tanker parts (end caps for a proposed scratchbuilding project) and some JT's MegaSteam, Big Boy Premium Blend for my restoration Big Boy due to arrive in two days.

One other non-train item came from the gift shop of the Clinton, NJ Cracker Barrel we stopped at for dinner on the way home Saturday. I knew about this product from their hilarious YouTube commercials (and music video Imagine Where You Can Go) , but the name of this scent was too funny to pass up:

Poo-Pourri Deja Poo

And of course the display was placed next to the restroom hallway

Today I received four WP California Zephyr Aluminum passenger cars by K-line. These are brand new in the factory sealed boxes and look fantastic! Too bad K-line didn't survive, they made great stuff. These are the 15" versions so they fit well on my 12'x8' layout, and they have interiors with people instead of silhouettes typically found in simi scale passenger cars. I'm totally stoked I found these being a WP fan. here's some photos.

Original New Packaging:

Individual cars:

WP Silver Dollar

D&RGW Silver Mustang:

CB&Q Silver Roundup:

CB&Q Silver Horizon Observation car:

Normally pulled by a set of Western Pacific F7 ABA's, they were all busy pulling freight, so leave to the good old #485 GS-64 to pull it from Paradise*, CA to Reno, NV. Then a set of F7's will take it the rest of the way to Salt Lake City, Utah. I think the silver cars look great being pulled by a black GS! i'm missing a baggage car from the same set, hoping to find one on eBay. Maybe someone here knows of one K-line K4613-10903 Zephyr baggage car

*I've posted this before in OGR, so for those that may not have seen that post, my layout is named after Paradise, CA. It's a fantasy rail stop, as there wasn't a passenger rail stop in Paradise's history, other than logging line for the Diamond Match Co. in Chico, CA. and other lumber mills in the area. I so named my layout because my Dad lived in Paradise for 25 years where in passed away in 2010. And then in 2018 the town burned to the ground in the Camp fire, killing 86 people. In memory of the life's lost, homes and businesses destroyed by the fire, I named my layout.

When I bought this 15" WP California Zephyr set on eBay, as I stated in the previous post above, I could not find the 15" K-Line Baggage car (K4613-10903) to go with the set. I searched high and low and all I could find were the K-Line 18" version (K4613-30903). As I was getting frustrated looking for 4 weeks I found a couple of the Lionel aluminum 15" baggage cars. The Lionel is not as nice as the K-line (sorry Lionel). I was just about to pull the trigger on the Lionel baggage car when up popped a used K-Line 15" (K4613-10903) on eBay. I'm like yahoo, oh bummer! The sellers starting bid is $125.00, which is kind of pricy, I thought. I contacted the seller saying his price was a little high, but he knew they were hard to find and it was the only one available at the time. As it turned out I was the only bidder (so maybe it was priced to high), so I got it for $125.00. Beggars can't be choosers, and it is in very good condition. Story be told, here's a photo, and now I have the complete set! :-)

Love those vista domes!!!

New from Berkshire Valley Models are #682 Mail Bags which arrived today.  These are white metal with decals included, 3 bags per pack.  Planning to use them in the NP NCL RPO car that's ready for decals.  Having new decals made to provide the "United States Mail/Railway Post Office" script needed per the NP prototype mail-dormitory cars.
