Delivered by Mr Postman today.   Perhaps not everyone's idea of cool, but they are to me. First a Marx New Haven E7IMG_20210709_175913IMG_20210709_191432IMG_20210709_191810IMG_20210709_191828 A-B with matching caboose.

Next the Lionel 1719 boxcar and 1722 caboose, not the best, but didn't cost much. Love the woodgrain door on the

boxcar.  Finally 4 new (to me) Lionel plug door boxcars. Three I did not have, thats gives me a total of 15 different

in about two months of collecting them. I had the Autolite one, just have to compare them and choose a keeper.

No, I purchased nothing significant in the past couple of months, and glad of it.

I still run the trains I have, very pleased with all of them (I've never sold or gotten rid of any of them), and I continue to thoroughly enjoy the hobby while spending hardly any money on it lately.

I have spent a little for repairs and purchased some small things like smoke fluid.

The good news is that it is very possible, once you have the trains that satisfy you, to stop buying trains, and continue enjoying the hobby as much as ever.

I don’t know about that Arnold. I enjoy the immediate sugar high that I get from regularly purchasing an endless amount of engines and rolling stock that I can’t possibly operate fully in my lifetime. Moreover, the thought of leaving it all to my heirs, who will practically give everything away at endless garage sales while thinking of me leaves a twinkle in my eye. Why would I ever want to stop buying now? LOL!

Browsing and buying are probably more than half the fun of modeling IMHO!

Those New Havens look good. I started collecting those boxcars a year or two ago. Still looking for Wix and Chun King. There are so many variations on some of the cars as far as trucks and couplers. Then you can find the same car in a Scout version.

I’ve been looking for these MTH BMT Standards. I used to ride a three car set, they called the Bankers Sspecial  It ran on the Brighton line in Brooklyn and switched over to the IND in the tunnel and took us to the Nassau  loop which was Broad Street, Nassau Street and Fulton Street and in the evening it came back the opposite way and  Broad was the third stop. So now I’m thinking about incorporating a subway coming out from under Pennsylvania station.

Nothing special this week, just an Industrial Rail (pre-Atlas) FIRESTONE tank car that someone converted to two-rail using KaDee couplers and Intermountain Bettendorf trucks. I have a Menard's UTLX and a K-Line HOOKER tanker that use what looks like the same underframe tooling; this will make my conversion of one of those (probably the Hooker) so much simpler.

Nice, Bob! You’re going to have a fun time detailing it. I use a scotch brite pad on one mount and a wet solvent on the white pad for the other mount. It works reasonably well. Also, put on and end of train truck before you attach a roadbed to the top of the platform, covering up the truck screw.  Needless to say, I didn’t and had to rip up some of my detailing to install that thing.

@Strap Hanger- Here is the pipe load I plan to use. I'm guessing a piece of sytrene and some side rails will cover the hardware for the pads. I might add brake wheel stands to give it more detail.

I got a little whimsical and added figures, a water tank, track maintenance parts, etc. and the end of train truck with blinking light.  Are you going to paint it to match one of your road names?  It would look really great painted and decaled in LIRR grey/Orange.

Probably, PRR was a thought but I like what you did with yours.

Going with that LIRR color scheme on a Kline Plymouth and a mta yellow on the track cleaner car will make a perfect pairing (I’d decal the side frame base of the track cleaner with a small LIRR/MTA “M” logo from the 7Os, i might even put a larger one of those on the Plymouth instead of dashing Dan).  I see the start of a cool work/track maintenance  train!

Well, I’ve been hunting for an operating LIRR car for quite a while. After recently seeing some of the mth dump cars on the operating accessory thread (they looked outstanding), i renewed my search and found one of these just now!  -

I got it for a great price and It should arrive by this weekend (can’t wait), however, I run a more urban themed layout and those logs are going to have to be replaced with metal pipes I can dump with my two operating tracks.  Bob, the pipe load you will use for your track cleaning car looks almost perfect. Are you repurposing them from another flatcar or did you just cut some lightweight pipe?  Does anyone have any suggestions on light weight plastic that I could paint to replace the logs and not over tax the side frame/dumping mechanism on this car?  This was very hard to find and I don’t want to break it with too heavy pipe. Can’t wait to get it dumping on my tracks!

I bought the first car (6-5700 Oppenheimer Casing Co) as a whimsical purchase, but I liked the detail and found that it was a solid car. I was also warned that it may be a “gateway purchase”. And it was. I now have four of the eight Lionel Turn of the Century “weathered” reefers. The 6-5702 National Dairy Despatch reefer arrived today. imagePre war love! Found this lovely 225e gun metal gray engine, but had not one old style coupler cars to pull. Then, as if on cue, found an 8970 pre ear set with the 1684 engine and litho cars, which I adore. Put them together and you get this!

BTW, can anyone suggest a NOT too hard to find passenger litho set with these couplers? Would love to pull passenger cars with this!

Going back to John EK post on the 5700 series woodside reefers. Yes it can be a gateway on collecting. I ended the complete series along with doubles and triples. Just love them and it started in the 80’s when they were release. There are many of them that were sold in sets and not at a individual item. Had to look for set break ups. These can be found at reasonable prices and I think the first 6 that came out had sprung trucks and the others did not. This 5700 series also had work and tool cars in the series. Keep looking as they can be had for low prices😊

Agreed and guilty as charged.

You can’t beat the current prices on the 5700 series of cars. Three of the four I’ve picked up were NIB or never run. They match well with my Postwar and Railking loco roster and run smoother than the few 6464 box cars I have. They lack add-on details, but the die casting is clean with nicer cast doors (IMO) than most any post war reefers/box cars.
