I picked up another MTH premier wood sided reefer to go along with my Nathans one.  These are so good, I may start collecting a few more.  This Genco Olive Oil one was really well done and a nice offering by Roundhouse South down here in Florida.  Nice job - Love the “Importati Da Corleone, Sicilia Italia”

I think I see an olive oil factory/warehouse scratch build in my future!

I should have my Genco reefer sometime this week.  When I first saw these Genco reefers advertised, I thought they were being issued by the owner of Genco Trains of White Plains, NY. (long ago closed.)

Several years ago I found this floor toy. I saved the shell and picked up a Beep chassis on the cheap. The reverse was shot and the owner elected to dump it rather than pay to fix it. I was thinking that it would be a great attention getter at the train races in Howard Beach NY . I thought it was fast.  Not so when I put it in the race. It’s been packed away since. Well last week along came a PRR Beep shell, so I will repurpose  the chassis once again.

Congratulations!  I was going to bid on it but when I saw there was someone else (you?)  who was also bidding, I decided to pass.  I have 2 remotes that work but would like to eventually have the option of using my phone -- and as a back-up in case my remotes break or die.  Happy railroading

His alternate mode is a train so I think this counts. But I picked up this 3rd party (Hasbro/Takara were uninvolved) Transformer (the "alien robot that turns into a car" kind not the "makes the train go" kind) based on an alt history comic where the Transformers woke up in the industrial revolution. Bumblebee took on the form of a tank engine in that comic and this figure was originally intended to be a replication of his train mode, but the makers decided "Well, we need to get at least 4 different figures out of the mold, let's make a Thomas!" So this figure's vehicle mode is... Thomas the Tank Engine. He can also sort of fit on O gauge tracks if you squeeze the wheels in so technically he's an O gauge train!

I'm still debating if I should give him a more "Transformery" name like Sudrian or just go with the obvious one of "Op-Thomas Prime" for him. "Sudrian" being the term given to people who live on Sodor.

Just got this Williams by Bachmann F7 A-A powered and dummy set. It was listed at Trainz as Like New and I was delighted to find that it apparently was never run. It has a true blast horn and bell. The horn of course is not up to modern standards but it's good enough for me. I plan to get a horn-bell button so I can hear the bell. I saw the post by Gunrunner John showing how to make one, but I don't know if I want to try that right now, so I'll attempt to find one of the K-Line ones.

20230122_172320

I didn't have any other Lackawanna rolling stock so I got the MTH below. This Phoebe Snow box car is also a placeholder and reminder that I want to eventually get a Phoebe Snow passenger set that would look great with the F7s.

20230122_172410

Then to round it out I got this Lackawanna caboose, my first K-Line acquisition. It has working marker lights, opening doors, separate grab irons, and a nice mesh roof walk, and it was very affordable. On its first run I thought the interior lights and smoke unit were broken, even though the marker lights were lit. (I did have the "TMCC / Conv" switch set to "Conv" and the smoke switch was on.) Then I took the powered loco off the track and turned my 1033 transformer up to the max -much higher than I ever use- and I could finally see the interior lights and the smoke unit produced a little wisp of smoke. I put the powered loco back on and still got the wisp of smoke but if I ran it fast enough to see the lights it would probably get airborne. I'm not going to attempt to change to LEDs right or rewire anything now so I'll just make do. And I've read the thread about K-line smoke units melting shells, so I'm going to leave the smoke unit off anyway. The car is beautiful the way it is. A big thank you to whoever owned these pieces (maybe someone here) and took such great care of them!

Oh my I can’t believe my luck!  First I found this set of Lionel Blue Comet by MTH at the GTA train show in Puyallup, WA.B1D6A287-3AC2-4599-B5BD-664363344AA4

Then I was talking with a friend who runs g scale at the show and said a neighbor gave him some post war o scale and I could have it!  I thought we’ll this was going to have one or two pieces that would be ok.  Was I wrong!  I haven’t gone through all three boxes yet but the first one revealed the following.52E01051-60D7-40E7-A906-180BEBC30812

That’s a post war Santa Fe! I opened the battery compartment to see how bad it was but I found 0 corrosion!  This was the best find of the year!  I can’t wait to see what else is in the other two boxes. ( I peaked and saw an oil rig already!). I will share more as I open the boxes tomorrow!  Too late tonight.  I gotta try and sleep. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. Gonna have to force myself to sleep.

Iron Horse, THANK YOU for letting me get this.  Because of limitations of the handhelds (primarily range issues), I sold my handhelds.  When my WIU began to periodically fail, I began to worry.  I was able to get the device to work from time to time but that time became farther and farther between.  I literally was plugging the WIU in and see if it would boot up, typically taking anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes to get it to work.  In November, I basically gave up as the device was not booting up on my plug and unplug process, and sent the device to Steve and Jeff.  They got back to me and thought it was a defective radio board of which MTH was not committal to supplying in the future.

Again, thank you for letting me win this.

Is that a less common variation? I know that green gondolas are fairly scarce but I don't know about marking variations. I do have a green 6462 with those same markings. I got mine out of a junk box for $5.

I picked up this 6014 Wix boxcar. It’s one of the rarer 6014s. I got it at a reduced price because of the dirt and smudges. I took a chance that I could clean it up.

Bob, are the 6014s the smaller double door boxcars with non opening doors?  If so Andy, aka Silver Lake also collects them.  He's moving more into scale two rail operations but I believe he still collects those DD boxcars.

Yes Joe, those are the ones. Actually there are a few different numbers; but they are all non opening double doors.

Don’t you just hate when that happens Bob? It doesn’t make sense to waste time and gas taking it back to the hobby shop. Plus, other things would be sure to follow you home.

@pennsyfan- Great find...I am a collector of the "O-27" type small boxcars.  The Wix car, as you say is one of the more rare, and yours looks terrific.  Here is most of my collection pictured below: I especially like the ones that Lionel did for special customers so that they might have a unique train set.  Such things as "Toy's R Us", Macy's, Tru-Value Hardware, Sears, and others.

Lionel Plug Door Box Cars

I would consider this one of the more rare ones that I have (I don't have a "Wix") its the Chun King , Orient Express.  This was the unique part of set X-150 in 1956.  After years of looking I finally found this one at a train show in Austin, Tx in August of 2022.

Lionel 6014 Chun King box side

The Wix boxcar carrying number 6014 - 150 was a component of set DX 837 only offered in 1959.  Although not really known positively, it is suspected that the Wix car was commissioned by the WIX Corporation of Gastonia, North Carolina.  Now to give you something more to look for, the component box with the proper "-150" suffix is considered even more rare than the car!.

Best Wishes

Don

I unpacked the two new cars last night. Both have local importance for us Lawn-guy-landers......

First is a custom run for Nassau Hobby by MTH. Two Cousins Fish market was about 10 minutes from where I grew up. I used to go there with my mother all the time for seafood. Couldn't pass it up when they announced it last year.

I’m wondering if they are the same cousins that have Cousins Lobster Trucks. I believe they offer franchises. We had a food truck at the community clubhouse last summer. The lobster roll was good.

I went online to Nassau Hobby to see if they had any of those Two Cousins Fish Market Lobster cars in stock.  I was able to add one 1 my cart and complete my purchase.  The #1969 car was sold out but I got the #255 car.  I would not have known about these special run Fish Market cars if it wasn't for your post. Thank you for posting!

happy to help. It's a sharp car.

I’m going to the Amherst show this weekend, but had to warm up a little bit on my haggling. One of our dealers from work was selling some trains for a friend. Was able to pick these up for a steal. A493ECF2-1FD1-4715-9D4E-76055C7D681D

Nabbed me one of the MTH C-16 docksiders. I bought one of these back in 2020 but after a mishap at a show in 2021 where it not only threw a siderod but knocked a wheel out of alignment my original engine was down for the count. I kept the shell in case I ever got another, and well, now I have a second. I'm definitely intending to keep the New Jersey Central shell it came with just so I have options but the Baltimore and Ohio shell is the primary shell for this engine as far as I'm concerned. I love these little tank engines and am glad to have a working one back in my collection.IMG_0246IMG_0251
