Cab-2 remote will not turn on. Any suggestions?

We recently moved. As part of the move, my trains and Legacy system were placed in temporary storage for three months. The batteries were removed. It was boxed in its original box and then inside another substantial moving box. There was no physical damage visible to the boxes or the remote when we retrieved them from storage.

Tonight we unpacked the Legacy system, connected it, powered up the base, installed the batteries in the remote and allowed it to charge until the indicator LEDs on the base turned green. When we press the CTC button to turn on the Cab-2 remote...nothing. Tried two other sets of rechargeable batteries, no go. Then tried normal alkaline batteries as a last ditch option. Nothing.

We probably pressed the CTC button over 100 times. Nothing.

Any similar experiences? Any advice on things we might try? Of course, this happens at just that time of year when I need the system most.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not but on the back of the cab-2 on the upper right side just below the top screw , you will see a small silver dot. press that with a pen or pin and see what happens. I believe that's a reset for the cab.

I hope it helps,like I said a stab in the dark!!

Thanks, Doug. That is the reset button. We've tried that several times. I suspect it may be a failed switch.

I actually stopped by Nicholas Smith Trains as I knew I was headed that direction and both Joe and Chris fiddled with the remote for quite some time. We all came to the conclusion that it needs a trip to Lionel. I've emailed Lionel Service for a return authorization. Looks like I'll be without my Legacy for Christmas. Sigh.

I wouldn't count on that. Lionel's turnaround is typically pretty fast.

Ron,

Your Legacy will probably need to be repaired, however try this, pop one of he batteries and then reset it, when I did this my unit would come back to life. I used mine by doing this for a short time, before I sent mine into Lionel for repairs.

Lionel's turn around time has been extremely good, when they fixed mine, it was back in 10 days. Make sure you call and they will send you an RA # via e-mail, if you are a Veteran Lionel pays the shipping Cost also. Lionel, Still one of the best companies around.
