The only diff I see is the battery holder cover - there's no cover, just a plug. Can it be knocked out?

Yes, done it many times. You have to drill and tap the holes for the battery cover, horn and knock out the slot for the E-Unit.

@Jon G does the plug that's in the battery hole just knock out? I would be fearful of cracking the frame at one of it's narrower points. Do you knock it "in" (upward) or "out" (downward), or does it even matter? Sometimes better to learn from the experiences of others rather than suffering the occasional ill effects of trying out new techniques on your own!

Knock it out from the inside. There will not be any paint where the plug seated, but it is not visible with the battery cover in place.
