Can anyone explain the different Numbered Versions of the AMERICAN FLYER 4696
as I have found the AMERICAN FLYER numbers of
4694 , 4695 , 4696 , 4675
and a No. 4680 Steam Engine 4-4-2 with a No. 4671 Metal Tender.
Regarding the American Flyer Prewar 4695 Standard Gauge Brass Piper Steam Locomotive with Mechanical Bell,
is there a Mechanical Bell System inside the Locomotive that Actually Rings ?

You asked THE $64,000 question Norman. Its been studied for decades and there is still no real consensus on the bewildering numbering scheme and all the variations that have appeared over the years. Its worse than you think for the numbering. The locos have numbers, the tenders have numbers and the combos have numbers.
Yes there a mechanical bell bell ringing mechanism in the loco.
