I recently picked up this little transformer.  Can anyone identify it and date it?  It had a decal on top to identify it, but that has flaked off. I checked it out everything was fine, so I plugged it in and it works fine. The knob that is labeled “on & off” actually varies the voltage from 5.5 volts to 12.5 volts AC.  There does not appear to be any way to actually shut the power off without unplugging it.  But I was easy on it, maybe there is an off position if I had turned the knob harder. There does not appear any way to disable the unit, even to replace the cord.
