I am stumped.  I have 2 New old stock, MTH steam premier PS3 locos that I am attempting to program on my DCC program track.  I get repeated "Can't read CV " messages.    Some background:   The DCC is a brand new NCE Power Pro PH-10 system.  First, I successfully programed a brand new Dapol loco with no issues.  Went step by step using the PP manual.  Then tried both MTH locos with no luck.  Used both "STD and Page" with the same resulting message.  Tried activating both short and long addresses.   Confirmed that the DCS/DCC and 2 rail switches were properly set.  Tested both locos on conventional AC and DC power and using the DCS selector so I know they get  track power at least.  I can't imagine both units have a DCC issue so I must be doing something wrong.  Please help.

Thanks,

Jim

A lot of decoders require more power (amperage) to program than many systems put out on the program track without a booster.

So programming on the main is an option or getting a dedicated small system for programming is another.    \

Be sure to turn off power to all aother locos before trying to program on the main.

I have now tried programing "on the main" using option 1, address program, using the PP system manual.  I did not get the "Can't read CV" message after loading the addresses.  Tried to activate both long and short addresses.   Still nothing on either engine.  Given that both locos react (lights, sound and movement) to conventional ac or dc power with the DCS switch employed,  yet have no reaction when they are switched to DCC has me baffled.  Any programing ideas are appreciated.

I do believe somewhere MTH does say to program on the main because the programming track doesn't supply the power needed.

As for using the NCE with them, I have never tried reading the CVs.  I just put the loco on the track and went through the prompts in the remote to reprogram the ID for long address without having to manually change any CVs.
