Lionel puffer smoke units using fog or e cig fluild

Well that explains it.  Posts about using anything but approved manufacturer smoke fluid are usually deleted.  They make fluid specifically for trains.  Stick with it.  Folks will spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on a locomotive and then cheap out on the fluid.

Well, just my opinion you thought wrong. The vast majority of the folks here on the OGR Forums, have asked "what is the best smoke fluid", over many, MANY years, and a simple use of the SEARCH feature will reveal hundreds of answers on the subject.

I wish sometimes there was more transparency and consistency with moderation on this and other forums. Despite the apparent ban on discussing vape fluid as a potential smoke fluid alternative, there are traces of this subject that have survived moderation:

Then in the name of safety, where do the moderators draw the line? You have some encouraging (and selling!)  grounding the frames of classic Lionel transformers.

Others give great instructions for replacing old transformer cables, but maybe we shouldn't talk about that either as only certified electricians should replace power cables...

Oh, and what about kit bashing and other upgrades such as command upgrades - those most certainly are not manufacturer supported....

Don't get me wrong - moderation is usually a terrible and thankless job that unfortunately brings to light the not nice side of humanity. I"m just stating that very clear, transparent, and consistent moderation can be beneficial both to moderators and forum members.

All I m saying is a guy sold me a 671 with AVON baby fluid IT smoke like crazy I stop using it because it stinks! (the smell) nothing I ever used comes close to it .. It had more smoke coming out of that puffer unit (more of what you would see in a motor driven one) no where in the search talks about it  , I just want to bring the bad stories of using it  here .. So others can reference the info. and help our hobby....daniel

Yes I saw your post earlier today and the moderators were right to delete it. As Alan Arnold posted above do a search  and read for yourself the dangers of what you posted and the problems it may cause.

I know of a guy some years ago that used lamp oil and ruined his new $1200 steam engine when it flashed and started a fire on his layout, lucky for him the fire was quickly put out and saved most of his layout and most important his house and family. All for saving a few dollars, was it worth it?

I will never understand the mentality that will pay $1,000 to $2,000 on a model locomotive and then try to save 50 cents on smoke fluid.  🤨

That's probably not the reason they do that.  It's possible they are trying to find a product that produces MORE smoke than what is generally produced by what's on the market.  I didn't read the thread that was deleted about e-cig fluid, but perhaps there are people who want their engines to produce nicotine smoke.  That way the engine would do the smoking for them.  They would just inhale the nicotine smoke without having to light up.  I don't know whether those are the reasons people try non-standard locomotive smoke fluid, but I seriously doubt it's to save a few pennies.  If they, in fact, are trying to save money, then I'm just as mystified as you are about it.
