@CanadianCN - Ah yes, your 6-18271 CP SD90MAC Diesel has great sentimental value for me too because when I retired several years ago my colleagues at work gave it to me as a retirement gift.  Well, they didn't exactly 'give' it to me, they had taken up a collection of cash and, because they knew I was into model trains, they told me to buy myself a nice engine to remember them by.  Ever since I'd seen the picture of that SD90 (with the beaver prominently displayed on the side of it) in Lionel's 2000 catalog I'd been attracted to it, and so then when I coincidentally saw it on eBay I snapped it up and she's been pulling various consists (and I've had no problems with it) on my layout ever since.  She's a beast for pulling power!

A few years back I commissioned some Canadian-style EMD wide-cab kits from Kaslo Shops. A run of 50 were made but I've only seen a couple of other modelers that actually installed theirs. Mine aren't "one-of-a-kind" but they're extremely rare nonetheless.  If you're interested in getting your own wide-cab units, you should let Ryan Kunkle at Lionel know you want some.

Those are amazing, I have been hoping one of the major manufacturers would produce gp38w or gp40w.

You can run your CP/CN passenger cars in the same consist as the railroads used to run. Here in Ottawa the local Ottawa / Brockville ran daily every morning arriving at  Ottawa West station, yard & roundhouse at about 10:15 AM as I remember. After leaving Ottawa Union the engine would be changed out. The regular engine to Brockville would be # 1265 CP Light Pacific added to the train for the trip to Brockville and return later the same day. The Brockville local would come over from Ottawa Union with the Locomotive off the early morning Prescot to Ottawa local also a 1200 series Light Pacific. CP & CN called these mixed trains "POOL" trains. I lived one block east of Parkdale Ave about a half mile west of Bayview & Scott where the CPR station Ottawa West, yard and roundhouse were located. I could hop on my bike ride east to the station and watch the engine change out during the summer when school was out.

This is a great idea! I'm an American living in Southern California, but my wife is from Vancouver, my kids are dual citizens, and my daughter attends Queen's Univ. in Kingston. I collect CP and BC Rail pieces, and one of my long term goals is to model Whistler Village and its train station on my (some day) permanent layout. Can I get an honorary membership in the group? ;-)

Growing up about 2 miles from the Niagara River near Buffalo we traveled to the Sherston beaches on Lake Erie nearly every Sunday in the summer. Also traveled through every province bordering the US many times back when the Trans Canada Highway was a two lane road. 50 years ago I saw 6060 on a fan trip from Toronto to Niagara Falls. Recently picked up this engine and cars from a fellow from Toronto.

I also have a Williams CP F3 ABA with 15” cars. My first TMCC conversion.

I am not a huge CP Collector but I did have a great grandfather who worked for CP out of their corporate offices in New York City in the late 20s and early 30s. As such, I felt obligated to have something CP on my layout from the time period. Somewhat surprisingly, at least to me, 90% of the O Scale CP Steam Locomotives out there are the Royal Hudsons. Although it is a great-looking engine I wanted something a little more plain, and cheaper. Luckily a friend was selling his first-run Lionel Legacy CP Ten-Wheeler and snatched it up. Here it is running around my layout:

Mike CT - Beautiful engine!  I had the opportunity to see the 'real' #2816 at trackside - running 50+ mph - several years ago when she was in Ontario making her way across Canada.  Talk about breathtaking!  What a sight and something I'll remember for the rest of my life.  Then Hunter Harrison took over at Canadian Pacific and curtailed all 'public relations' gestures in favour of Precision Scheduled Railroading.  Oh well, Hunter's gone now so hopefully - at some point - CP will decide to run her again.

The 3rd Rail SD40-2s in CN will be the Canadian Wide Cab variation if you wanted to add a few more units to your order

The VIA cars are Golden Gate Depot (3rd Rail).  I have one of 12 sets that were painted in that scheme when I worked on that project back around 2014.  Since I run it on a US western themed layout, I call that that train the "Snowbird".  The Santa Fe train is a club train. 

@DylTrains , your thread started well and just keeps getting better. Going back to the great scene in your original post, is the station in the background from the Railroad Avenue Reproductions kit for a CN 3rd Class Station? I'm in the market for a scene setting project of my own and this may be it.

@Mike Casatelli , Thanks! Yes that station is one of those kits.  Its a pretty nice building based off the CN 3rd class station from Bellis, Alberta.  My own's green color paint might be slightly off how it looks today (more lime than olive), but it still makes for quite the little county scene!  I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to stucco 'modge podge' (or something similar) to the walls and add thin wood strips for those horizontal baggage cart running strips for a later CN appearance as an alternative as well...

@DylTrains,  Thanks very much for your quick and informative reply. That very evocative scene of yours is what I'd like to create for myself. Of course, I'd have to get that shade of green just right . . .

@DylTrains   End-to-end, that's one good-looking CN train you have there.

@GG1 4877   I second everything @Kyle Miller has to say above about your SF/CP video. As you may remember, I have the GGD Canadian set in the original CP scheme. Seeing your stunning VIA set, I wish I had gotten it, too.

- Mike, as you may remember, it was you who let me know that the VIA Rail F40PHs were cataloged again and helped me obtain them through the hobby shop you worked for at the time.  I am eternally grateful for that!

Hi Folks,

Relatively new to the forum (at least posting as I have been reading for a year or so). No club affiliation yet…live in S. Ontario close to Michigan border about an hour from London.

I currently have a fastrack setup on my basement floor and plan on starting a layout build in the next few months. I have two young boys that will mean progress will be slow.  Very new to layout building so will be reading and searching the forum for tips and help.

I have a few Lionel lionchief, LC+ engines (Lots of UP due to a brief period spent living in Texas)…got my first legacy CP 4-6-0 this week. I find the lionchief plus stuff is great for kids.

Would love to connect with folks if you are in my neck of the woods.
