I may be a lone voice here, but cover the ceiling up with something smooth and paint it the same sky blue as your walls. 

1) You won't have this black monolith overhead in your photos

2) it makes the room brighter. 

3) Since its the same color as the walls, nothing is up their to catch your eye

Definitely cove your vertical corners, and if you can, cove the horizontal ones as well.  I did not, and wish I had. 

@John Sethian my original plan was to use masonite to cove the walls to the ceiling and to hide the joists and whatnot in the ceiling. Then paint that whole thing blue. Then I got to looking at the conduit that needed moved and the duct work that I would have to build around and decided against it based on my skill set and patience. I do think it's the way to go if you're under a plain ceiling.

@dennish it looks like you're building in a huge cavern! I can't believe how that opens up the ceiling. It looks great!
