I've been using two control systems. RailPro which has a dedicated remote and Blunami (Formerly BlueRail) which uses an IOS device. I thought if I could use an old IOS device and keep it as a dedicated train controller that would be easy. I have an old ipad mini that has been working well. Then I would not have to worry about using my everyday phone for trains.
I recently started beta testing the new Blunami Android app. I did not have a spare working android phone, so I just loaded the app on my everyday phone to help complete the beta tests.
I quicky realized I was never "looking" for my train remote. Where did I leave it / put it down? Is it charged?
I always have my phone charged and when I don't have it in my hand it's in my pocket.
I am pleasantly surprised by this revelation.
Oh... and the Android app is pretty cool too. New functionality is designed regularly so there is always something new to test.
Having Fun!
